A black Bentley pulled up in front of a villa in Pinecrest Manor.
Finnian in the back seat had not yet finished his cigarette.
When the car stopped, he dropped the cigarette to the floor and crushed t out with his black leather shoe.
‘Mr. Sanders!” The housekeeper hurried forward to take the jacket draped
>ver his arm.
Has she eaten anything?” Finnian asked.
The housekeeper said softly, “She’s had a little, but not much.”
Just then, Noelle’s figure appeared at the top of the stairs.
She was wearing only a thin, silk robe with a cardigan thrown carelessly
>ver it.
n the late autumn chill, it was clearly not warm enough.
Her face was pale, without a trace of makeup, and her eyes were red and
¡wollen.
This version of Noelle was a stark contrast to the elegant and sophisticated image of the eldest Sanders daughter–in–law.
She looked like a cornered, frightened bird with nowhere to run.
Finnian…” Her voice was hoarse and broken, laced with a sob. The next second, tears spilled over, silent and relentless.
Chapter 9
‘Noelle?” Finnian walked to the bottom of the stairs. “It’s getting cold. Why are you wearing so little?”
His gaze shifted downward, and he noticed she seemed to be barefoot, without even a pair of warm socks.
Why did Kaia take the ‘Vitality & Calm‘ project from me? Finnian, I’ve put nearly six months of my time and effort into it. Why would she do this? Is t because I’ve lost my husband? Is even she trying to push me away?”
As Noelle spoke, she took a shaky step down the stairs and nearly stumbled.
Finnian’s heart sank. He strode up the stairs in a few steps and reached out to steady the crying woman. “Noelle, calm down.”
Finnian, that’s my project. Even if… even if it was initially based on her deas, I was the one who brought it to this point. It’s like my child…”
Noelle looked down, large tears falling as she shook her head. “Now that he’s gone, do I truly have no place in the Sanders family?”
Alright, first, go upstairs and put on some proper clothes. I’ll have the nanny prepare some food. You need to eat something,” Finnian said in a gentle tone.
‘I have no appetite.” Noelle turned and gripped the railing, making her way back up. At the top of the stairs, she covered her mouth, her shoulders trembling. “Finnian, don’t throw me away like trash and send me abroad, please? I love this family. This is where I grew up. I can’t leave…”
Finnian watched her fragile form, his jaw tightening as he swallowed hard.
Finally, his voice was firm. “Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, you’ll always be a Sanders. No one can make you leave.”
Chapter 9
Noelle slowly turned back, her tear–filled eyes staring at him for a moment. At last, she whispered, “Okay.”
The late autumn sky darkened early. After finishing her work, Kaia drove straight back to Oakhaven Estates.
As her car pulled into the driveway, she saw a small figure sitting on the
steps.
Brynlee was holding a small bowl of cut fruit, eating while she waited for
her mother to come home.
Kaia parked the car and hurried toward her daughter.
Mommy…” Seeing her mother was the happiest part of Brynlee’s day. She hrew herself into her arms.
Kaia picked up her daughter and couldn’t resist planting a few kisses on her face. The sweet, milky scent of her child momentarily erased the day’s exhaustion.
The housekeeper, Amara, came out of the living room with a smile. Ma’am, dinner is ready. Will the master be home to eat?”
Kaia paused. After what had happened at the company today, Finnian had Deen gone all afternoon.
I don’t think so,” she said. It was already seven–thirty.
I’ll call Daddy and ask.” Brynlee pattered over to the sofa on her short egs, found her smartwatch, and quickly dialed her father’s number.
Brynlee…” Finnian’s rich, pleasant voice came through, filled with the unique affection he reserved for his daughter. “What’s up?”
‘Daddy, where are you? Are you coming home for dinner?” Brynlee asked in her sweet, childish voice.
Finnian replied, “I’ve already eaten. Is Mommy home?”
‘Yep, she just got here.”
Chapter 9
“Have Mommy eat with you. Daddy will be home a little later.”
Brynlee said, “Okay,” and held the smartwatch up to Kaia. “Mommy, do you want to talk to Daddy?”
Kaia was about to speak.
But just then, she heard a woman’s soft coughs from the other end, ollowed by Finnian’s voice. “Brynlee, I have to go. Daddy will try to be home early.”
Al… right!” Brynlee hung up and came to take Kaia’s hand. “Mommy, let’s Jo wash our hands and eat.”
(aia stood frozen. She recognized those deliberately hushed coughs.
Amara had prepared a lavish dinner. Kaia was so distracted she forgot to serve her daughter. The little girl nudged her arm with her head. “Mommy,
want some meat.”
(aia quickly took a piece of pan–fried fish, carefully removed the small >ones, and placed it in her daughter’s bowl.
