When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 191

He’d only heard from Jessie that the lady who saved April had risked her own life and ended up sick herself, needing rest. Now, seeing how pale and drained she looked, he made the connection right away.

In order to look good in front of Nicholas, the doctor launched into Jessie’s story about the rescue, adding a few dramatic touches.

“Are you the one who saved my daughter? May I know your name? I’d really like to thank you properly.”

Nicholas turned toward Sheila, his gratitude clear in his eyes and his voice steady but full of emotion. Sheila hesitated, her gaze flickering, then replied softly, trying to sound casual.

“Oh, Mr. Watson, really, there’s no need to make a big deal out of it. I just felt like I had a bond with April. I was really worried about her.”

April was actually a Watson. Sheila felt like her entire world was tilting. No wonder Nelly had been so eager to cozy up to April. There was something bigger at play.

Just a little while ago, Sheila had spotted Nicholas’s convoy from a hospital window. Carlos had mentioned that the most powerful members of the Watson family used cars with a special golden horse head on the hood. Sheila’s curiosity had gotten the better of her, and she’d trailed along to see who was so important they’d show up at the hospital themselves.

When she reached the pediatrics wing, she overheard nurses talking about April. Sheila remembered April well, so she’d wandered over out of curiosity. She never expected to get pulled into something like this.

Clearly, these people thought she was the one who’d saved April.

She didn’t even have time to think before the conversation swept her along.

Nicholas stepped forward and offered her his business card with both hands. When Sheila saw his name and title, her mind went blank and her heart started pounding so hard she could barely breathe. The elegant, calm man in front of her was actually one of the main heads of the Watson family.

“I… I’m Sheila Olson,” she stammered after a few seconds, her cheeks warm as she met Nicholas’s eyes.

As soon as she said it, she turned to look at April, worry lining her face.

“How is April? Is she alright?”

“Thanks to you, she’s doing well. She just has a bit of a fever now, but she’s out of danger,” Nicholas replied quickly, not even waiting for the doctor. The sight of Sheila caring so much for his daughter clearly moved him.

“Ms. Olson, you’re unbelievably kind. You risked your own life to save my daughter. I honestly don’t know how to thank you enough.”

“Ms. Olson.”

Nicholas caught up to her, asking for her contact information. He didn’t have time to thank her properly right now, since he needed to get April home to recover, but Sheila’s selflessness left a deep impression on him. He was determined to repay her kindness someday.

Sheila still felt uneasy, but she handed over her number, hoping for the best.

After leaving the room, she stood in a quiet corner of the hallway for a long time, trying to calm down. Soon after, Nicholas left the hospital with April.

Later, Sheila tracked down a few nurses and casually asked about what had happened the night before. April had been brought in late at night, unconscious. Jessie had been the doctor on duty. Which meant, besides Jessie, nobody knew who had actually saved April.

Sheila thought it over for a long time. She called Selina and asked her to bring some snacks and gifts to the hospital. Sheila gave them to the doctors and nurses who’d been in April’s room, quietly asking them not to mention anything about her or Nicholas to anyone else. She explained that Mr. Watson’s identity was sensitive, and she didn’t want any attention because of all this. Nicholas’s assistants had said much the same, so Sheila’s request seemed perfectly normal. No one found it strange.

When Jessie came in for her shift, all she knew was that someone claiming to be April’s father had come and taken her out of the hospital. Jessie had no idea who he really was, and she definitely didn’t know Sheila had been there at all.

That afternoon, Victoria rushed to the hospital too, only finding out what happened after the police called her.
