It was Brody.
Nelly’s mind went completely blank. She just stood there, frozen, until Brody came right up to her and yanked her up like she weighed nothing.
“Brody?” She blinked in disbelief, needing a second to realize she wasn’t imagining things. It was really him.
He stared at her with a look that could kill. “Isn’t one pretty boy enough for you? Now you need a whole room full? Are you really that desperate?”
Brody’s face kept shifting from pale to green and back again, anger practically radiating off him. He was so furious he could barely speak, jaw clenched tight.
“What are you even doing here?” Nelly asked, ignoring his outburst, her eyes full of confusion. “Brody, aren’t you supposed to be in Westhaven?”
“So you knew you had to hide, huh? You came all the way out here just to mess around…” He looked her up and down, taking in her outfit, and it only made him angrier. He actually let out a bitter little laugh.
Brody didn’t want to argue. He just grabbed her arm, ready to drag her out.
But Nelly wasn’t going anywhere with him. She’d worked too hard for this night. She wasn’t about to let him ruin everything.
“Brody, you don’t get to boss me around. I paid good money for tonight!” She grabbed at the wall with both hands, shouting as she shot desperate looks at the men behind her.
The guys hesitated. They didn’t want trouble, but they were paid to serve her. They moved in, some grabbing Brody, some stepping in front of Nelly and blocking him off.
Brody took a shaky breath, his voice low and icy, shaking with barely controlled rage. The chill in the air was impossible to ignore. Even Nelly felt a little scared.
But she couldn’t give in. She just wanted him gone. “We’re getting divorced, Brody. You don’t get to control me anymore. I’m going to enjoy myself tonight, so stop ruining it. Just leave.”
He let out a cold laugh, his eyes locked on hers, dark and stormy. He didn’t say another word. Instead, he just started walking forward.
The guys who were protecting Nelly kept backing up, and she moved with them until eventually she couldn’t go any farther. She collapsed onto the sofa, totally exasperated.
Seriously? It was just one guy. Were all these men just for show? Was it really that hard for them to throw him out?
