When Family Became a Place I Couldn’t Return To novel Chapter 257

Nelly was about to call for the nurse when Brody cut her off. “Just stay with me for a bit. Don’t make a fuss.”

She went quiet. Brody always managed to ruin the moment the second she started to feel even a little sorry for him. Still, seeing him looking half alive made her bite back any retort.

He watched her, clearly pleased that she was actually listening for once. His gaze shifted to the water bottle sitting nearby. “I want some water.”

Nelly nodded right away, pouring a cup. She even checked the temperature with her own hand before handing it over. When Brody tried to take it, she realized he could barely move his arm.

“I’ll… feed you,” she said, feeling a little awkward.

Brody didn’t mind at all. “Okay.”

Nelly gently brought the cup to his lips. Brody drank slowly, taking small sips, his eyes fixed on her the entire time. She was completely focused on taking care of him, a little crease between her brows. There was nothing glamorous about her right now. She looked tired and plain, but somehow she was even more beautiful like this. It made his heart pound and his breath catch. Even his chest wound ached a little more.

“Do you want more?” she asked when the cup was empty.

Brody shook his head.

“Are you hungry?”

“Sorry…” Brody coughed, turning away. He just couldn’t help it. She looked so cute with her cheeks all puffed out.

Nelly wiped her face with a napkin, finally swallowed, and shot him a look. Unbelievable. Here she was taking care of him, and he was laughing at her.

Once she’d calmed down, she picked up the bowl again. “Eat. Then try to get some rest.”

Once they made it to the hospital, someone else could take over. She wouldn’t have to do this anymore. The thought made her think of Sheila. If Sheila saw Brody like this, she’d probably never leave his side.

Brody only took a few bites before he lost his appetite. He stared at Nelly. There was so many things he wanted to ask, but he had no idea where to start.
