“You saw how Michael acted last time. He doesn’t care about you or me. Honestly, I’d probably be better off sticking with Nelly than following you around.”
Nancy never bothered to hide anything from Rudy. They had already talked things through. Her deal was clear. She’d only leave Nelly if she could take over part of the Watson family business.
Rudy was helping her, but he was really just looking out for himself. Britney and Nicholas were getting old. Someone would have to take over the Watson family someday.
But Rudy was the last person you’d want to trust. Nancy knew she couldn’t put all her hopes on either side, not yet.
Rudy gave her a look. “Stick with Nelly? She trusts Jonah way more than she trusts you. For all you know, Jonah’s already sold you out. Once they’re done with you, who knows what they’ll do.”
“That’s not your problem. And from now on, don’t talk to me in public.”
Nancy’s hands curled into fists. She couldn’t stop thinking about that moment in the office, when Jonah and Nelly were holding each other. They were already so close. Wouldn’t Jonah have told Nelly what happened at Michael’s place?
“By the way, I heard something. I need you to check it out for me.”
Rudy really wasn’t interested in arguing anymore. He had a different reason for coming to see Nancy.
When Nelly came back to Westhaven, Rudy heard she brought a man with her. People at the hospital said the guy was loaded, and his people even called Nelly “Mrs.”
That was definitely something.
Since she’d joined the Watson family, Nelly had never mentioned having any other family. Honestly, it made sense. If she did have someone else and was still fighting for Christopher’s inheritance, the Watsons would just freeze her out even more.
But why would Nelly hide a marriage just to keep the peace? Unless there was something messy about it that could ruin her reputation.
Later that day, Nelly picked up a few healthy meals from a nearby restaurant and brought them to the hospital herself.
She had already checked in with Jessie. Brody woke up early that morning. He was healing well, his fever was gone, but he was still weak and needed a few days in the hospital to recover.
At home, Marian told her that Tina was looking after Carrie, so Nelly didn’t have to worry.
There was no cell signal in the underground city, so Carrie probably hadn’t been able to reach her. As soon as Nelly got back, she sent Carrie a message.
But for some reason, Carrie never replied. Later, after Nelly finished her work, she tried calling, but Carrie didn’t answer.
Nelly decided to see Brody first. After checking in on him, she’d head over to Tina’s place and bring Carrie home.
