When His Perfect Mask Shattered I Awoke (Anneliese and Zacharias) novel Chapter 575

Even though this was exactly what he had once hoped for, he couldn't feel a trace of happiness in his heart now.

The moment Anneliese heard his words, her tears stopped abruptly, and she grabbed his shirt tightly.

"Don't go! I have something to say."

Jonathan halted and looked at her silently.

He sensed something bad was going to happen.

Anneliese's lips trembled as she said, "Jonathan, I think we should take a break for now. I…"

Before she could finish her sentence, she was frightened by the sudden icy expression that overtook Jonathan's face.

Her voice quivered, and she bit her lip.

Jonathan only stared at her. His hands, braced on either side of the sink, were clenched tightly as he struggled to contain the emotions that were threatening to break loose.

He said nothing, and his expression was unreadable, but the heavy rising of his chest was full of suppressed fury and pain.

Something about it scared Anneliese, and she lowered her head, not daring to look at him.

Silence hung between them like a standoff.

Jonathan stared at Anneliese, who wouldn't look at him and seemed to have already made up her mind. He pursed his lips and said, "I'll pretend I didn't hear what you just said. I'll give you a chance to say it again."

Anneliese bit her lip hard. Then, she raised her head and repeated.

"I said, I think we should take a break for now."

Jonathan gritted his teeth, and his breath was unsteady.

Then, he smiled coldly and said mockingly, "Is that the conclusion you came to after thinking all night?"

Anneliese lowered her head and said nothing.

The atmosphere sank into an even longer deadlock.

Eventually, it was still Jonathan who broke the silence.

He grabbed her chin and forced her face upward. Then, he glared at her as he said coldly, "Tell me, how long is the break? Hmm?"

Anneliese opened her mouth, but no words came out as she met his cold eyes.

"I…" She didn't know either.

They both knew that this was just another way of saying goodbye. The outcome under these circumstances was obvious.

Between him and Nishay, she had chosen to obey Nishay and give up on him.

"I'm sorry, I…"

She didn't dare meet his gaze, but better a short and sharp pain than a long one.

However, just as the words left her lips, Jonathan cut her off.
