When His Perfect Mask Shattered I Awoke (Anneliese and Zacharias) novel Chapter 593

Anneliese hesitated. "Wouldn't it be too much trouble for Dr. Chevalier? My grandma's condition actually seems pretty stable. It doesn't feel right to bother him during the holidays."

"It's fine. He's just happy to have an excuse to get out of the house and avoid his family pressuring him to get married. Coming to Oceanton is a relief for him," Jonathan lied with a straight face.

Anneliese smiled a little. "Thank you."

Her grandma had been so harsh to him, yet he never showed any resentment. Instead, he'd quietly taken care of everything for her. She really didn't know what else to say besides thank you.

But saying thank you felt way too formal. With their relationship in such a sensitive place, Jonathan would definitely get the wrong idea if she put it that way.

Jonathan watched her gentle expression on the screen for a while before his lips curved up.

"Just don't run away at the last second again. That's the best thank you you could give me."

Anneliese glared. "We'll see how you behave!"

Jonathan made a "got it" gesture, and both of them ended up laughing.

After the call ended, Jonathan felt great.

But before he could even put down his phone, the group chat notifications kept popping up.

Carter, who'd just been forced onto a plane, was complaining nonstop about how Jonathan made him travel to Oceanton during the holidays.

Jonathan scrolled through the chat, skipping Carter's complaints and jumping to the newest messages.

"Jonny the Scoundrel finally got his wife back, and it's all thanks to me!"

Jonathan tapped the screen slowly.

"Who are you calling Jonny the Scoundrel?"

Carter immediately backed down.

"Everyone, check out how desperate someone looks when he's begging for help!"

He made sure to tag Zane and Joel as well.

Zane was quick to jump in for the fun.

"Jonathan, beg nicely, and I'll get my girl to put in a good word for you."

Jonathan remembered Jessica's pregnancy and stared at Zane's avatar, thinking about what he'd overheard in Halden the other day.

"Who says she's your girl? I heard you're about to get engaged, and your fiancée doesn't get along with my wife at all."

Everyone knew the Shaymans and the Malones were planning a marriage alliance, and Zane had been dragged to a movie date with Gianna by the elders on New Year's Day.

Gianna had been into Zane for ages—everyone knew it.

Jonathan brought it up on purpose, giving Zane a little warning.

Things were tense enough on his side. If Zane started drama with Jessica now, Jonathan would definitely get caught in the crossfire.

"What engagement? News to me. Jonathan, since when do you just believe rumors?"

Who let this lovesick fool into our group chat?

Joel was all smiles, thinking a lovesick buddy was great for business—get on his good side, and you can start the year off strong with new deals.
