Gianna choked on his words.
She then heard the edge in Jonathan's voice as he continued, "You're also relying on your family's power, so it makes sense for my wife to rely on mine. That said, it might not be so proper for you to rely on the Malone name, though."
She frowned, not understanding the matter. She was the Malone heiress, so how was it not justified for her to make use of her family's influence?
She felt there was a deeper meaning in what Jonathan said.
Anneliese was worried about Jessica's condition.
Jessica was pregnant. She was still in the early, unstable stage. If something happened to her, it would be serious.
This was especially true since Gianna had used underhanded methods before.
"Hubby, let's see Jess first," Anneliese said as she tugged on Jonathan, who nodded.
"We can't judge based on one side. Bring Ms. Sweeting over and let her explain everything clearly," he told the middle-aged police officer who was clearly in charge of the case.
The officer looked toward Gianna, knowing that the Malone family was influential and even promising her that Jessica would be punished.
It was also clear that Gianna was wary of the man in front of her.
He didn't know what to do. Then, he heard Jonathan's words. "What's wrong? Do you need me to call your chief?"
The officer didn't doubt him at all. He responded right away, "I'll go bring her over now."
Then, he turned and left quickly.
Still feeling uneasy, Anneliese followed after him, only for Jonathan to naturally follow suit.
Gianna's face changed. She frowned and followed them as well.
…
They soon saw what was happening inside the temporary holding room.
Two fierce-looking men had Jessica pinned against the wall. A woman with pink-dyed hair, a nose ring, and a leather skirt raised her hand and slapped Jessica across the face.
Jessica's right cheek had already been hit twice. Blood stained the corner of her lip, making her look like a mess.
"Stop it!" Anneliese shouted. Her eyes burned with anger as she rushed forward. The holding room door was thick glass, and it was locked.
Jonathan fixed a sharp look on the middle-aged officer. "Open the door."
The officer finally felt the pressure from Jonathan's presence.
Beads of sweat formed on his forehead as he rushed over and unlocked the door without hesitation.

Zane is already back in Halden, while Jessica's already been beaten. At least I didn't go through all this trouble for nothing.
