Chapter 30 The Master’s Test

Aiden went over to Darius, who was half–slumped in a wooden chair, dozing as if he hadn’t moved for hours. Even when called, the old man barely reacted.

“Master Geuder…”

Aiden’s voice stayed patient. He called again and again.

Finally, a gravelly groan drifted up from the chair. “Give it a rest already. You buzz like a fly. You want a class change? Find someone else. I’m busy not caring. Get lost before this old man loses his temper.”

The old man still didn’t bother to open his eyes.

Aiden didn’t flinch. “I’m here to change my class to Beastcaller. No one else here can do that.”

That earned him a snort. “Beastcaller, huh? You think anyone can just walk in and pick that class? You want the job? Fine. Prove you’ve got teeth.”

He leaned back, rubbing his neck. “Outside the city, there’s a pack of Direwolves. Bring me a hundred pairs of their eyes, and then we’ll talk.”

A familiar chime echoed in Aiden’s ears.

‘Quest received: The Eyes of the Direwolf.”

‘Objective: Hunt one hundred Elite beasts known as Direwolves. Retrieve their eyes and deliver them to Master Geuder.

Aiden exhaled softly. Figures.

It was exactly how he remembered it from his past life–the Beastcaller trigger quest. It was brutal, tedious, and practically impossible to clear in just a few days.

He declined without hesitation.

Darius scoffed. “Useless. Can’t even handle that much? Stop wasting my time.”

Aiden chuckled. “You’ve got the wrong idea, Master Geuder. It’s not that I can’t handle it. I just think hunting a few wolves isn’t much proof of anything.”

He unclipped the Medal of Dominion from his chest and held it out. “I’m guessing this speaks for itself.”

The old man opened his mouth to snap back–then froze.

The emblem’s faint violet glow washed across his face. His eyes widened, the irritation draining from them like water down a crack,

“Wait… is that a Medal of Dominion?”

Aiden nodded, a small grin tugging at the corner of his mouth. “That’s right.”

Darius blinked hard, sitting up for the first time. His tone shifted completely. “Then you’ve already proven yourself. Anyone holding that emblem more than qualifies for the Beastcaller path.”
