"Thanks for going to all this trouble," she said, stepping forward to grab a couple of pieces of candy.
Chi Yun’er pulled the small cart back and said with a smile, "Well, well, who’s this? I’ve never seen someone so brazenly reach for other people’s things."
The woman’s face darkened. "Chi Yun’er, you’re following orders to bring things to us frontline medical staff. Naturally, I get a share. How did it become ’other people’s’ things?"
Chi Yun’er tutted. "I’m afraid Comrade Fang Yuying has gotten something wrong. No one gave me any orders. All this," she said, gesturing to the cart laden with goods and chuckling, "is an extra benefit I secured for everyone through my own cleverness and ingenuity."
"There isn’t a lot to go around, so it’s being prioritized for the employees who work the hardest and contribute the most. As for you, you’re at the back of the line. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll get some crumbs?"
There wasn’t much, but receiving it was a mark of honor.
Fang Yuying gritted her teeth and snorted coldly. "It’s just a couple pieces of candy. Who cares? I buy White Rabbit Creamy Candy by the bagful!"
Chi Yun’er nodded. "You’re right, you wouldn’t care. A person like Comrade Fang Yuying, who can just parachute into the general hospital, certainly isn’t short on money."
"So please, make way. Not everyone is as lucky as you, able to get a head start without even trying."
With that, she walked around Fang Yuying, smiling and speaking sweetly to the various nurses and doctors as she handed out the items. "Ladies, don’t you worry. Everyone sees how hard you all work."
"You are the most beautiful angels in white. The hospital’s summer heat relief benefits have seen a huge change this year." At this point, she glanced at Fang Yuying again, her smile exceptionally bright.
"Any employee who joined before the twenty-eighth of last month can enjoy the new summer benefits. Anyone who joined after that can still receive the hospital’s specially prepared, generously portioned Huoxiang Zhengqi water."
Fang Yuying glared. The hospital was a hotbed of gossip; a conversation between two people could be overheard by a passerby and spread throughout the entire hospital in no time.
For the past few days, everyone had been gossiping. The dreaded summer heat relief supplies, which had been the same for over a decade, were finally seeing a massive change. Rumor had it that an employee had personally escorted a shipment of Huoxiang Zhengqi water to the south to trade for better benefits. No one knew what they’d be getting this year, but everyone was eagerly anticipating it.
This included the newly hired Fang Yuying. A second ago, she had been gloating, thinking how lucky she was. Now, seeing the looks on the faces of those around her, she wished she could grab a thick bone marrow needle and stab Chi Yun’er in the face with it!
She wasn’t the child of a hospital employee. Her family had gone to great lengths to get her this job, spending a lot of money and calling in favors.
