Back then, Maxwell often stayed up late and skipped meals, and Amelia used to worry about him all the time, always fussing over his health.
When had she suddenly turned so cold?
In the end, Maxwell couldn’t take it anymore. He rushed out of his office, wanting to stop his little sister.
He wanted to ask her straight up if she was pulling away on purpose, just to mess with him.
But just as he stepped outside, he couldn’t call after her. Instead, he ran right into Gianna at the door.
“Maxwell, I heard Amelia was here, but she already left,” Gianna said, tugging on his arm affectionately as she pulled him back into the office.
Once the door was shut, she couldn’t help blurting, “So, did she agree to join me in the Popular Model Contest?”
Seeing her so excited, Maxwell felt a surge of irritation.
But he swallowed it down and answered slowly, “Amelia already ended her contract with us. She’s not joining any competition.”
Gianna’s bright eyes immediately dulled, and her smile froze in place.
“What? She really had enough money to buy out her contract?” She couldn’t believe Amelia had that kind of ability.
“She didn’t pay anything.”
“What?” Gianna’s mind clicked instantly.
So he still cares about Amelia. He just let her walk away without demanding a penalty.
Thinking that, Gianna burned with anger and jealousy, though her face stayed sweet and calm.
Then, with an innocent little smile, she said softly,
“Maxwell, I get it. She’s family, after all. How could we actually charge her? You only did it to push her into giving in and coming back–1 totally understand.”
In the past, seeing her act this way would’ve melted him instantly, making him want to protect
her.

But now…
Maxwell stared at Gianna’s pure, gentle expression, and for the first time, something uneasy twisted inside him.
“Gianna, if you want to know why I didn’t ask Amelia for a penalty … see for yourself.”
Maxwell grabbed his phone, pulled up the surveillance video, and handed it to her.
After Amelia had sent it to him, she’d deleted the original completely.
“The footage is exactly what it shows. How else can you explain it?” Maxwell said with a frown.

After thinking it through, he decided maybe she wasn’t completely to blame.
Honestly, what she said sounded exactly like something Amelia would do.
When he thought about how Amelia had been acting lately, it wasn’t impossible she’d want revenge or even hurt them.
“Gianna, don’t cry. None of this is your fault. You were just trying to protect the family–I get it.”
Maxwell hugged her tightly, trying to comfort her.
“Sob … Maxwell, you always understand me best. You’re the nicest to me.”
Gianna let out a quiet, relieved sigh inside.
She thought smugly to herself, This trick worked perfectly. Maxwell is eating right out of my hand
now.
