“Don’t you dare accuse me like that! How could I possibly do something like this? Isabel’s my future sister–in–law!” Gianna snapped.

Amelia crossed her arms, a mocking smile playing at her lips.”You sure you really see her as your future sister–in–law?”

Her words instantly reminded Marcelo of what Amelia had said earlier on the yacht, and his face darkened a little.

He did not want to believe that Gianna would actually hurt someone–or that she did not want him to get married and start a family.

But right now, she had been alone with Isabel.

So why did she stop them from being together?

What could her motive possibly be?

None of it made sense.

Gianna’s gaze locked onto her brother’s face, and she caught that faint flicker of doubt in his eyes–a tiny crease in his brow, a glint of uncertainty that stabbed into her chest like a knife.

Cold sweat gathered in her palms as panic quietly crept in.

“Isabel,” Marcelo finally asked, turning toward her, “how did you fall into the water? Did Gianna really push you?”

The sudden question stunned Isabel. She pressed her lips together, eyes complicated.

Instead of answering right away, she looked up and met his gaze. “If I said yes,” she asked softly, “would you believe me?”

Her voice had barely faded when Gianna’s eyes reddened, and her trembling voice came through, full of pitiful grievance.

“Marcelo, you know what kind of person I am. How could I ever push Isabel? Why would I even do that? What good would it do me?

“You told me to keep her company, to introduce her to my friends, so I treated her just like my future sister–in–law.

“But then she suddenly got upset, gave me attitude, and walked away. I chased after her to calm

her down!
