Raymond had already been blocked by her and had to swallow his pride just to borrow an assistant’s phone to make the call. That alone should’ve been a big enough favor.

“Of course, I care about Gianna. I treat her like my own daughter. But if Amelia won’t budge, there’s really nothing we can do.

“If we don’t respond soon, the Nygard Group’s image will only take a bigger hit. It’s just an apology–it’s not the end of the world.”

Between his daughter and the company, Raymond naturally chose the company.

Though, of course, he had his own reasons behind that decision.

“I don’t mind apologizing,” Gianna said anxiously, “but wouldn’t that just make the rumors sound true? I’m worried it’ll hurt Nygard Group’s reputation even more.”

Seeing her father take the company’s side instead of hers made Gianna panic inside. She was so tense that she could barely hold herself together, but she still tried to argue one last time.

“Whether you apologize or not, what’s done is done. You might as well own up to it and calm everyone down before things get worse,” Marcelo finally said after staying silent for a while.

He had been quietly observing the whole time–watching Gianna, Emery, and his two brothers talk.

He noticed every little thing Gianna did—the subtle glances she threw at his brothers, the way she phrased things to twist the truth, the little tricks she used to steer the conversation.

And when he started seeing things from the outside, he realized how blind he’d been before.

If this hadn’t involved him personally, he probably would’ve fallen for her act again.

“Marcelo, except for the lip–syncing part, I’ve been wronged in everything else! And even the lip–syncing, it wasn’t my choice! It was the company’s decision. I was just following orders!”

Gianna’s eyes turned red, her lips trembling in a pout that made her look so pitiful it could melt anyone’s heart.
