Jeremy dodged to the side, the knife slicing through empty air. He kicked the guy hard in the knee, sending him to the ground with a cry of pain.

Amelia didn’t waste time. She snatched his knife, spun, and slashed, slicing his arm open.

That only made the rest angrier. Now, all eyes were on her.

“I thought they were coming after me, but turns out you’re the one they really want, huh?”

Jeremy handled the attackers like it was nothing, still calm enough to chat with Amelia mid- fight.

Looks like I’ll have to get her some protection. Never thought she’d have enemies like this.

Then again, she had been getting a lot of attention lately. It made sense that some people might be jealous.

Guess I ticked off the wrong people.

Amelia’s thoughts raced as she fought back.

She figured her idiot brothers wouldn’t go as far as trying to kill her.

More likely, it was someone helping Gianna.

She had been making Gianna’s life miserable lately, digging into Regina’s secrets and trying to expose the truth.

So, if Gianna wanted her gone, it wasn’t that far–fetched.

Jeremy grabbed a fallen branch and swung it, blocking attacks from all sides. The wood clashed against blades with sharp thwack–thwack sounds.

Amelia slipped through the chaos, her knife flashing as she took down anyone who got too

close.

The two of them fought like pros–numbers didn’t matter. The attackers started backing off

fast.

In the end, the men in black bolted, panicking as they ran.

Jeremy brushed the dust off his jacket, watching them run with a frown.

“They’re not done. Whoever’s behind this must be serious.”

He’d worried Wade might be the one pulling strings, maybe using Amelia to get to him.

But now, it clearly ran deeper than that.

Amelia wiped the sweat from her forehead and tossed her knife aside. “Whoever it is, I’m not scared. I just hate that you got dragged into it.”

Jeremy grinned, totally unfazed. “Come on, I’m not gonna stand by and let you get hurt.

She tried to hit the brakes, but it didn’t work!

“Jeremy! Someone messed with your car!” she yelled, realizing it right away.

But it was already too late. The car was flying straight toward a tree.

“Amelia, watch out!”

That was the last thing she heard before everything went dark. Jeremy’s voice was full of panic.

Drifting in and out of dreams, she saw flashes of her past–happy moments from childhood twisting into nightmares.

The people who once cared for her turned into monsters, chasing her as she ran for her life.

She’d been hurt and fought through it, but after all these years, she’d stopped expecting anything from anyone.

Hope didn’t matter anymore. All she needed now was to rely on herself and survive.
