When the Dead Still Call novel Chapter 320

Chapter 320: Amelia Chosen to Replace Gianna

“No, that’s not what I meant,” Gianna stammered, her voice losing its earlier confidence. “I was just trying to say that different herbs need varying amounts of water. Some, um, require the soil to stay moist, and also…” Her words trailed off, faltering under the weight of her uncertainty.

Everyone present sensed that something was amiss. Even Vincent, who usually kept his emotions tightly guarded, noticed the sudden shift in her demeanor. He sighed inwardly, regretting the momentary respect he had given her earlier. His gaze drifted toward Amelia, who stood quietly a short distance away, calm and composed.

Amelia and Gianna couldn’t have been more different—like day and night. A wave of regret washed over Vincent’s heart. How had he failed to appreciate Amelia when he had the chance? The more he watched Gianna struggle, the more his disdain for her grew. He found himself utterly unable to tolerate this foolishness any longer.

Once the show ended, he was determined—no matter what—to call off their engagement.

“Alright, Gianna,” Miguel said gently, stepping in to ease the tension. “If you’re not feeling well, don’t push yourself. Let Amelia take over. She’s just as knowledgeable about this.”

Even Miguel had to help Gianna save face, but it was painfully obvious she was unraveling again. Not long ago, Vincent had praised Gianna openly in front of everyone. Now, the more he tried to bolster her, the more humiliating it became.

Online, fans erupted in a frenzy once more.

[Wow, what a drama queen. Bet she’s faking sickness again because she doesn’t know what to say.]

[If you don’t understand something, just admit it! Why pretend to be an expert? Why not stay quiet like Ms. Jordan over there?]

[Even her own brother couldn’t handle it. He gave her a weak excuse just to get her off the hook.]

At the Nygard residence, Marcelo watched the broadcast with a smug, “I told you so” grin spreading across his face. Miguel had fallen for Gianna’s act twice now—the same mistake repeated. Marcelo wondered how Miguel felt about it. If he still hadn’t seen through her, Marcelo thought darkly, he might just lose his patience entirely.

“What’s going on? Isn’t Gianna supposed to be the expert here? She was doing fine just moments ago. Why is she suddenly stumbling over her words?” Emery, who had nothing better to do, was watching as well. Her brow furrowed in confusion.

“Who knows. Maybe she cheated before and messed up this time,” Marcelo said carelessly.

“Marcelo, don’t say that! Gianna wasn’t reading from anywhere. No one was feeding her answers. How could that possibly be cheating?” Maxwell frowned, puzzled by his adopted sister’s strange behavior, but he still defended her out of habit.

“Fine, then why don’t you go there and speak up for her?” Marcelo challenged.

“How can I jump in now? Marcelo, what’s with your attitude lately—especially towards Gianna?” Maxwell retorted.

She truly knew her stuff. Every detail Gianna had stumbled over earlier, Sabrina explained clearly and effortlessly.

After covering the theory, she demonstrated how to plant rare herbs, highlighting the important details to watch for. She gently lifted a tiny seedling, holding it delicately between her fingers, then showed how to dig a small hole in the soil at precisely the right depth.

She explained that rare herbs were fragile and would only thrive if the temperature and humidity were perfect.

Her movements were smooth and confident, revealing a wealth of experience. In comparison, Gianna’s stiff and awkward gestures seemed even more glaringly out of place.

The guests and online viewers couldn’t help but praise Sabrina for her intelligence and skill, even though she never once tried to show off.

Watching Sabrina’s calm and assured demonstration, Gianna could already feel the sting of comparison. If she had to suffer, she vowed, others would suffer too—especially Amelia.

A sharp glint flashed in her perfectly made-up eyes.

Then, feigning casualness, she said, “Ms. Jordan really has it all—smart and beautiful. No wonder she’s Mr. Curran’s fiancée.”
