When the World Ends, She Begins novel Chapter 10

Before returning the car yesterday, Natalie had taken her map and marked down several key spots—including a newly built shopping mall on higher ground in the Pharmville District.

She remembered it clearly. The grand opening was scheduled for tomorrow.

It meant the shelves were probably fully stocked right now.

But with the torrential rain shutting down the entire city today, there was no way the mall was opening as planned.

Natalie was planning to make her move tonight. A little zero-dollar shopping spree.

If the rain was going to destroy all that inventory anyway, why not let her "rescue" some of it first?

She set an alarm and got into bed. This was going to be a big job—she needed her energy.

Meanwhile, Braxton had been stuck inside the Locust Tree Restaurant for three hours.

The water just kept rising, and the rain showed no signs of stopping.

Am I going to have to spend the night here? He thought bitterly.

Right then, a burly guy who happened to be a fishing nut paddled by in a kayak—yes, an actual kayak he kept in his car year-round.

Braxton's eyes lit up. He rushed over and immediately asked for a ride.

"Sorry, dude. Add another person, and this thing will sink. I can't paddle that heavy."

"I'll give you a thousand dollars!"

"Hop in. It's not about the money. You just looked like a kindred spirit."

The man grinned and quickly pulled up his phone to show his payment QR code.

Braxton finally got dropped near his apartment complex and stepped off the kayak.

The water levels here weren't as bad as in the Broadview District, but still high enough to be dangerous. On the way back, he got scraped up by floating debris.

By the time he reached his front door, his hands were shaking so badly he couldn't even fit the key in the lock. Frustrated, he pounded on the door across the hall.

Tiffany opened up and gasped at the sight of him.

"Braxton, what happened to you?!"

He pushed past her, frowning. "Get me some iodine and medical gauze."

While she fetched the supplies, she asked, "Why are you back so early? And why do you look like hell? Don't tell me you failed with Natalie?"

As he wrapped his wounds, he gritted his teeth and told her everything.

"That bitch really stood you up?"

Tiffany's face darkened. "If she won't take a hint, we'll make her."

"And how do you plan to do that?"

"She thinks she's so pure and untouchable, right?" Tiffany's lips curled into a slow, cruel smile.

"Let's see if she can stay so high and mighty after spending a night with a couple of thugs."

Braxton frowned. "That's going too far. She's supposed to be my future wife."

"She clearly doesn't see it that way.

"After she's ruined, I'll spread the word. I'll make sure everyone knows."

Tiffany's smile turned vicious.

"When she's disgraced, abandoned, and desperate, then you swoop in as the only one willing to take her back. And boom—she's yours."

Braxton's eyes gleamed. "Tiffany, you're a genius."

He hesitated, then muttered, "This still feels a bit off."

"Oh, please, Braxton. You really think she's wife material? Once you get her hands on her family's money, you can drop her anytime. Think about it—girls like her? You'll have dozens lining up."

"You're right!" He finally let it go. "So where do we find these guys?"

"Relax. Leave it to me." Tiffany was confident.

Natalie was pretty enough to attract attention from plenty of sleazy men. All Tiffany had to do was give things a little push, and the rest would take care of itself.

The two of them exchanged a smug glance, as if they could already see Natalie's fall from grace.

While they plotted, Natalie was fast asleep.
