When the World Ends, She Begins novel Chapter 51

Natalie sighed helplessly. Since she wasn't leaving the building anyway, she decided to bring it along.

When she pushed open the door, Olivia was standing dutifully in the hallway, keeping an eye on Tiffany.

Natalie handed her a bag of food and said, "Thanks for today. Go home and get some rest."

Olivia glanced at the bag and instantly waved her hands in panic.

"No, no! I can't possibly take from you!"

She had only wanted to show gratitude for the medicine Natalie gave her before, but somehow this exchange kept ending with Natalie giving her even more.

Natalie didn't bother arguing. She shoved the bag into Olivia's hands. "Just take it. I've got other things to deal with.

"Oh, and here." She pulled out a nail gun. "Next time, don't risk hand-to-hand fighting. One shot, problem solved."

Olivia froze, eyes widening at the weapon.

"No way! That's too valuable—you need it yourself!"

In this chaotic world, weapons meant survival.

Who in their right mind would just give one away?

But Natalie pressed it into her hand again. "Keep it. I've got more than one."

Olivia had shown her goodwill three different times now—twice in the past life and once by blocking Braxton earlier.

Natalie felt they had some connection. Besides, giving these things away didn't mean much to her anyway.

She had plenty of food, and more than one nail gun.

Although Natalie was usually cold and kept out of other people's business, she liked what she saw in Olivia and didn't mind helping her out.

Olivia stood clutching the food and the nail gun, eyes brimming with tears.

"Ms. Ashford, I really don't know how to thank you ... "

She had thanked Natalie more times than she could count, but it still didn't feel like enough.

A scrap of paper she once wrote had been repaid with rare medicine, food, and now even a weapon.

She looked at Natalie, a strange warmth wrapping around her, lips trembling as she struggled to find words.

Natalie gave a faint smile as she said, "Don't call me Ms. Ashford. I'm probbaly younger than you. Just call me Natalie."

Olivia nodded. "Thank you, Natalie."

They were still talking when a sudden scream tore through the air behind them.

It was Tiffany—still unconscious on the ground—who had Lucky's jaws clamped around her thigh.

Lucky bared her teeth and ripped out a chunk of flesh with a vicious snap.

That's for hurting Natalie!

Ugh. Nasty. This tastes nothing like the chicken drumsticks Natalie gives me.
