When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 1017

Mrs. Amelia eyed Janice up and down, her face twisting into a sneer of absolute disdain. "With your spending habits, can you even afford anything in this store? I've seen plenty of cheap girls like you."

She turned and handed the dress to her daughter. "Try it on, honey. It perfectly suits your aura."

Sophia glanced at the dress, then shot Lemira a provocative smirk.

As she approached, her heels clicking sharply against the floor, Sophia mocked, "Well, well, Lemira. How do you still have the mood to go shopping? I heard your little witness almost died."

Lemira met her gaze dead-on. "Have you already forgotten how you were on the floor, begging for mercy?"

Sophia's expression darkened for a split second. "That's right. I begged you, and you refused. So don't blame me for playing dirty."

"So it was you," Lemira said coolly. She had suspected as much, but she hadn't expected them to admit it so openly.

Sophia's red lips curled into a vicious smile. "I'm warning you to drop the case. Otherwise, the next person to have an 'accident' might just be you."

Stella stepped up. "Sophia, don't push it."

Sophia glared at her coldly. "I'm pushing it? Lemira is the one pushing it! I've given her fair warning. If she's begging to get herself killed, there's nothing I can do to stop it."

"We'll see who gets the last laugh," Lemira replied evenly.

Mrs. Amelia let out a cold scoff. "Your parents never knew their place either, Lemira. And look how they ended up. You know perfectly well what happened. Don't repeat their mistakes. The Langstons could never beat us. Not back then, and certainly not now."

Mrs. Amelia felt completely vindicated.

Now that her daughter was marrying into the Jones family, the Sinclair Group had secured the funding to avoid bankruptcy, and she was no longer facing prison time.

Lemira's expression turned icy as she stared down Mrs. Amelia. "Then I should congratulate you on securing such a wonderful son-in-law. I hear he's even older than you. Tell me, do you call him your son-in-law, or your big brother?"
