After dinner, Lemira headed back to campus.
The moment she walked into her dorm, she caught Janice and Stella exchanging a loaded glance. They clearly had something to say.
Janice marched right up to her. "Lemira, confess. Were you out on a date this afternoon?"
"I went with Amanda to the remand center. You guys knew that."
"We knew about the prison visit," Janice countered, "but we didn't know you were going out for a fancy dinner with the family afterward! Someone snapped photos of you guys, and they're all over the internet."
"Photos? What are you talking about?"
Stella pulled up her phone. "The pictures of you guys dining out just dropped online. The rumors are saying your relationship with Orion is so serious you're officially meeting the parents."
"That's utter nonsense. Plus, Orion and I aren't even celebrities. Why would anyone care?"
"You can thank Sophia for that," Stella explained. "Her reputation is completely in the gutter, but her scandals are driving insane traffic online. Everyone knows about her past connection to Orion, so by extension, the internet is obsessing over you."
Lemira let out a heavy, exhausted sigh.
Janice giggled. "I bet Sophia is absolutely losing her mind seeing these photos. She's probably twisting with jealousy right now. You literally have everything she ever wanted."
No matter what Sophia did now, she could never compete with Lemira.
Lemira shook her head. "If Sophia hadn't let her obsession consume her, and if she hadn't let her mother manipulate her into self-destruction, she actually could have had a great life."
Sophia used to be the ultimate socialite. She was gorgeous, had an incredible figure, and possessed real influence. If she hadn't ruined her own reputation, she could have easily succeeded in the entertainment industry or anywhere else.
It was a shame she tied her entire worth to a man and sacrificed her dignity just to please her mother. It ended in total ruin.
Stella nodded sagely. "There are a lot of people like that. Sometimes family isn't really family—they just drag you deeper into the mud."
"Tell me about it."
