Lemira turned to Orion. "Let's get out of here."

Orion nodded. It was blatantly obvious she couldn't stomach the sight of the Langstons for another second.

Now that the trial was over, Lemira didn't even bother hiding her absolute disgust for them.

Caspian looked stricken. "Lemira, I swear to you, right here in front of Mom and Dad, I'm going to be the brother you deserve."

Lemira lowered her gaze, her voice icy. "But I don't need brothers anymore."

Without another word, she turned and walked away.

Orion stepped directly into Caspian's path, his gaze predatory and sharp. "You both should know by now that the years of torment you put her through can't be erased with a few pathetic apologies."

"I'm not trying to erase it. I just want her to understand. Mr. Everhart, please stay out of this."

"If you actually wanted to make amends, did you ever bother to ask what she wanted? Did you ask how she wanted you to make up for it? Or are these so-called 'amends' just a selfish attempt to ease your own guilty consciences?"

Orion's words were a lethal strike, hitting exactly where it hurt.

Caspian was rendered completely speechless. He knew exactly what Lemira wanted—she wanted them gone. But he simply couldn't accept the reality that his sister had disowned him.

Even if there was only a microscopic chance, he desperately wanted to stay in her life.

Shoulders sagging, Caspian muttered, "Rowan, what are we supposed to do? How do we get her to forgive us?"

Rowan's eyes were fixed on Orion's retreating back. "He's becoming a serious problem."

If it weren't for Orion Everhart, Lemira wouldn't have grown so independent, and the Langston family wouldn't have been pushed so ruthlessly into a corner.

Caspian nodded in agreement. "I hate the guy too. He's always standing in the way. But he's the Everhart heir. We can't afford to cross him."

The Langston Group had nearly been wiped off the map entirely because of that man.

A freezing, sinister smile curled onto Rowan's lips. "There's no such thing as someone we can't afford to cross. Human beings are incredibly fragile creatures."

Caspian snapped his head toward his brother, chilled by the sheer darkness in Rowan's expression.

Memories of the twisted experiments he'd witnessed at The Aether Research Facility flooded Caspian's mind. Panic flared in his chest. "Rowan, Lemira is our sister! I know you have your... unconventional methods, but you cannot use them on her! Absolutely not!"

Rowan blinked, snapping out of his daze, and the warmth instantly returned to his face.

He looked back down at the black-and-white photo of their parents. "I wouldn't. She's my sister. I'm going to take care of her."
