Stella looked at the photos and pointed to the one of the cousin. "This man used to be the Sinclair family's exclusive vehicle mechanic. He was on pretty good terms with Mrs. Amelia. Not long after, he opened his own dealership. There's no way he could've had that much money, so it must have been connected to the Sinclairs."
"You're saying this man might be the owner? That's impossible. My sources say the owner is someone else. He's just a senior mechanic at the shop now."
Stella considered this. "He might have gambled it all away. Back then, I suspected he and Mrs. Amelia were having an affair, which is why I did a little digging. I didn't pay much attention to it after that. It's been so many years, after all."
If Lemira hadn't shown her the photo, Stella would have never remembered.
Lemira's voice was tinged with excitement. "Stella, are you saying this man likes to gamble?"
According to her investigation, Evelina's father also had a gambling problem. It was likely that both cousins were gamblers, and when they lost money, they'd take desperate measures!
"Yes. I was quite young at the time, and because of my leg, I always tried to find a quiet corner at banquets. At the Sinclair estate, I saw Mrs. Amelia talking to this mechanic several times. He even dared to put his hand on her waist."
Stella shared the juicy high-society gossip. "I was bored back then, and since the Waverlies come from a journalism background, I just investigated out of habit. That's all I know."
She never thought that this bit of snooping would end up helping Lemira.
Lemira grabbed Stella's hand, her voice filled with excitement. "Thank you, this is incredibly important to me."
It was probably because so much time had passed that the TG Group's PR Team hadn't discovered that the dealership's original owner was Evelina's father's cousin.
Regulations were laxer back then, and there were plenty of shady dealings, making it hard to find anything now.
Stella felt a little embarrassed. "I'm just glad I could help. For now, let me handle the inquiries about the Sinclair family. I still know some people who used to work for them. Even though they're not there anymore, they should remember what happened back then."
"Thank you so much."
Lemira felt like she had found an unexpected breakthrough.
