When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 737

For the next several days, Lemira kept a discreet eye on Evelina’s activities.

The “two-faced” girl only showed up at school a couple of times to flaunt her jewelry and designer accessories, and then disappeared again. Lemira figured she was most likely avoiding Dorian.

Ever since Dorian had learned about Evelina’s engagement, he’d looked utterly heartbroken. It’s always true—people only cherish what they can’t have. Evelina certainly knew how to keep men hanging on her every move.

Lemira had half-expected Evelina to get cocky and make another trip to the dealership, but in the end, Evelina never went. After her late-night visit to the dealership last time, no one knew what was discussed, but Evelina’s father never made an appearance. Evelina had only met with that distant uncle. Still, it was obvious that this uncle was in contact with Evelina’s father and was aware of the car accident all those years ago. If they couldn’t get Evelina’s father, catching this uncle would be the next best thing. But Lemira was convinced that nabbing Evelina’s father was the key.

Suddenly, Lemira’s phone buzzed with a message: [Hehe, I’m watching you. I know what you’re up to.] She immediately tried to trace the number, but it was a virtual line. Whoever it was had taken precautions.

Lemira didn’t dwell on it, but later that evening, while she was out walking on the track with Stella and the others, she received another message: [There sure are a lot of people out on the field tonight.]

Lemira stopped and glanced around. Sure enough, the place was crowded. But she had no idea who was behind the messages.

“What’s wrong?” Stella had noticed the sudden change in Lemira’s expression.

Lemira just shook her head, kept quiet, and slipped her phone back into her bag. This wasn’t the place for a conversation.

“Lemira, stop right there!”

A group of girls strode purposefully toward them. Lemira recognized one at once—wasn’t this the girl who’d deliberately made things difficult for her at the panel discussion a few days ago? Word was, she was dating the president of the student news club.

Lemira stopped and looked them over. “Did you need something?”

“Lemira, you’re so cruel! We’re all classmates—why did you have the school discipline our dorm leader?”
