Lucian was seething with anger. “Asher, if you had listened to me earlier, at least Lemira might not hate us so much. At least we wouldn’t be stuck in this deadlock as siblings.”
Asher was completely distraught, covering his face and not daring to look at Lucian.
At this moment, he was suffering intensely.
Lemira was right—every single moment from now on would be nothing but torment.
A constant weight of pain and regret pressed on his heart.
And this was only the beginning of his punishment.
Lemira was truly merciless.
——
After hanging up the phone, Lemira finished her breakfast and went straight to campus.
She headed to her class in the main building, where Oanice had saved a seat for her.
As soon as Lemira sat down, Oanice leaned over and whispered, “How did it go last night?”
“It went well enough,” Lemira replied quietly. “Let’s talk later.”
She didn’t want to say anything more in the classroom—if someone overheard, the news would spread in no time.
Oanice understood and didn’t press further. She and Stella Waverly hadn’t slept well the night before either, both worried about Lemira, but they hadn’t dared to text her in case it brought her more trouble.
During class, Lemira received a message from Orion: [I’ll pick you up after class.]
[Where are we going?] she replied.
[Take the initiative.]
As soon as Lemira saw those words, she knew exactly what Orion meant.
After everything that happened last night, news would probably reach Mrs. Amelia very soon, so they had to act first.
She just hadn’t expected Orion to arrange things so quickly.
“Lemira, is what Susanna said true?”
Dorian looked exhausted, eyes bloodshot—he never imagined Evelina would actually marry Evander. What did that make him?
With a half-smile, Lemira replied, “That depends on what you mean. If you mean the wedding last night, it happened. And if you mean the video—yes, that was real too.”
After hearing that, Dorian looked like he might collapse. Face dark, he spun on his heel and stormed off.
Susanna burst out laughing. “Lemira, your family’s reputation is really something. The Langstons are the joke of our whole circle now. People can’t stop talking about how far you’ve all fallen.”
Lemira stayed silent, expressionless. Honestly, she didn’t care about the Langston name.
If she did, she wouldn’t have played that video at the wedding yesterday.
Lemira tried to leave, but Susanna stepped in front of her. “Hold on, you’re the talk of the town—give us the scoop on what happened after. Did Evander really trash Evelina? None of us can reach her.”
Susanna’s eyes glinted with malice.
Right then, Susanna’s phone rang, and suddenly her face went pale as she answered, “What? My mom is missing?”
