"Lucian, what are you saying? That's my only child!"
Evander was utterly shocked; he never expected Lucian to outright suggest not keeping the baby.
Lucian’s face was cold and severe. “Evander, Asher usually indulges you and lets you get away with things, but there’s no room for discussion when it comes to the person who killed our parents.”
Evander immediately protested, “Eve would never side with her father.”
Only a fool would give up the Langston family's status and follow a murderer.
Evelina wasn't that foolish.
Evelina hurried to pledge, “Lucian, I promise—I’ll cooperate.”
Lucian looked at her closely. “So, do you still need to go to the hospital?”
He could see right through Evelina’s lie.
She quickly shook her head. “My stomach’s fine now. I can keep working with the artist.”
Evelina had tested the Langston family’s attitude and realized everyone was united on this—and even Evander, foolish as he was, wouldn't budge.
She didn't dare push any further and had no choice but to go along.
Seeing the “two-faced” girl shrink back, Lemira let out a cold laugh. “I want to see results after dinner. We’re running out of time.”
With that, Lemira headed to the dining room; she was hungry and needed something to eat.
Soon, Lucian came over. “Lemmy, it’s just us now—be honest with me. Is Evelina’s father in your hands or not?”
Lemira looked up to see Asher had followed behind Lucian.
Her tone grew even icier. “I’ll tell you after Evelina finishes the portrait.”
She clearly wasn’t interested in talking about it now.
Asher grew frustrated. “Is it that you don’t trust us?”
Lemira shot back with a mocking look. “What have you done to deserve my trust?”
With things as they were, Lemira was becoming the only one the family could rely on.
That left Asher deeply unsettled, still trying to assert his authority over Lemira.
Lemira had no patience for any of it. She set down her fork and left the dining room.
Truthfully, she didn’t need the Langston family’s so-called “apology,” especially when it carried that air of superiority.
After Lemira left, Asher completely lost his temper. “Did you see her attitude? I apologized, and she still won’t accept it.”
“Asher, do you really call that an apology? Why the superiority?”
“But I’m her big brother, Asher! Can’t she show me at least some respect?”
Asher was furious—he knew he was in the wrong, but swallowing his pride wasn't easy.
At that moment, Evander stormed into the dining room. “Asher, now you see how cold Lemira can be, right? I told you, we should stop being so nice to her!”
She needs to be put in her place—then she wouldn’t dare act so arrogant.
