When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 817

Lemira looked at Evelina with a faint, almost mocking smile. “What’s wrong? Are you unwilling?”

Hearing this, Evelina clenched her teeth in frustration. That wretched Lemira was setting her up again.

Earlier, she had fallen into a trap over the portrait, having no choice but to reveal her father’s true appearance under pressure. Now, Lemira wanted her to persuade her own father to betray the Sinclair family—a completely thankless task.

Did the Langston family even have the means to go up against the Sinclairs right now?

Trying to hide her resentment, Evelina put on a hurt expression. “Lemmy, you’ve really misunderstood me. I was only asking. After all, I’m part of the Langston family now—if it’s something I’m supposed to do, I certainly won’t put it off.”

Lucian jumped in before anyone else could respond. “That’s good. If your father refuses to give up the Sinclairs, you must find a way to persuade him. Only if the Langston family gets revenge will we be able to back you and Evander once you’re married.”

Lucian knew exactly what Evelina’s priorities were.

Given how she used to live, she would know better than to pick the wrong side.

Evelina quickly nodded. “I understand, Lucian. I’ll do everything I can to persuade my father.”

But she still kept her real thoughts hidden: whether she could actually get her father to cooperate was not up to her alone.

After all, the Sinclairs were unlikely to take this lying down, and the Langston family’s quest for revenge would be anything but easy.

Evelina even thought, if she could get in touch with the Sinclairs, maybe they would pay her a handsome sum for her help.

Asher immediately chimed in, “Have your father return that money. If the Langston Group actually goes under, what kind of life do you expect to have? I hope you see the bigger picture.”

Evelina quickly nodded again. “Asher, I realize I was wrong. I’ll make sure Dad returns the money, and I’ll never make such a mistake again.”

Asher’s expression finally softened at her words.

Sensing the tension in the room, Lucian stepped in to mediate. “Asher, that’s enough.”

Asher fell silent, though he still looked annoyed.

Lucian turned to Lemira. “Lemmy, you can’t keep handling all this alone and excluding the family. When you need help, we’re here for you. You don’t have to do it all yourself.”

Really, these matters should have been handled by them as her older brothers.

But now, Lemira was the one bearing the entire investigation on her own.

“I know,” Lemira replied. “When it’s time for you to step in, I’ll let you take responsibility. But for now, it’s not the right moment.”

With those words, Lemira turned and left the Langston Estate. After all, her main reason for coming back this time was for the portrait.
