The moment Lemira looked down and realized she stepped on his boxers, her face caught fire.
This was mortifying.
She yanked her foot back instantly and darted straight into the walk-in closet.
Her face was burning. She caught her reflection in the mirror—her eyes wide and misty, her lips incredibly swollen and flushed.
Her entire body felt like it was burning up.
She remembered stepping right on that specific spot and wanted to melt into the floor.
Outside the closet, Orion watched the girl flee. He bent down to pick up his pajama shirt, and as his fingers brushed against the boxers, a faint, wicked smirk tugged at his lips.
He stood outside the closet door. "I'm going to take a shower."
Lemira's brain short-circuited. She immediately jumped to wildly inappropriate conclusions.
Didn't people usually take showers right before... that?
What... what was he planning to do?
She sneaked out of the closet and heard the sound of running water from her en-suite bathroom.
Lemira sat on the edge of the bed, her cheeks refusing to cool down. She desperately tried to figure out how she was going to reject him when he came out.
But she waited. And waited. Orion still hadn't come out.
That didn't make sense. He usually showered incredibly fast. He even used to tease her for being as slow as a snail.
She waited a little longer, eventually losing her patience.
Did he pass out in there?
She walked up to the bathroom door and knocked. "Orion, what's taking you so long?"
The water kept running.
Inside, Orion was leaning heavily against the shower wall. He caught a glimpse of her silhouette through the frosted glass door, and his breathing instantly hitched, growing dangerously heavy.
"Orion?"
"Wait."
Hearing his voice, Lemira felt a strange flutter of unease. Something sounded off.
Orion tilted his head back against the wall, grabbing a few tissues. His Adam's apple bobbed sharply. "Are you in a rush?"
His voice was incredibly raspy.
He had only intended to take a quick, cold shower, but his body was ruthlessly honest. The tension simply wouldn't fade.
But as she started getting ready for bed, she suddenly caught a whiff of a very distinct, heavy musky scent.
Like the aftermath of intense release.
The moment it clicked in her head what that scent was, she knew exactly why Orion was in there for so long.
Her face, which had finally returned to a normal color, violently ignited all over again.
She ground her teeth. Seriously.
He was outrageous.
After washing up and changing into her pajamas, she kept her bra on.
The man was still in her room, after all.
She walked out and saw Orion leaning casually against her vanity, looking at a framed photo of her.
Lemira walked over, her face still red. "You should really just go home to sleep."
"Kicking me out the moment I'm no longer useful?"
He set the photo down and walked toward her. Lemira immediately looked guarded.
