When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 922

"You call me vicious? And how high and mighty do you think you are? If you hadn't deliberately kissed up to Orion, how could you have possibly married into the Everhart family? I was the one who was supposed to marry Arthur, not you!"

The words rushed out of Amelia's mouth in a fit of rage. She instantly felt a pang of regret, but seeing the agonizing shock on her best friend's face gave her a twisted sense of satisfaction. She had waited for this day for so long.

Amanda's face drained of color. "Is that... is that really what you think of me?"

"How else should I see it? How was I inferior to you back then? Mrs. Eileen had her eyes on me! You were just the sidekick accompanying me to the blind date, but instead, you stabbed me in the back."

Amanda was utterly appalled. "I didn't even go near them! I bumped into Orion being bullied in the back garden, so I stepped in to help."

"And who asked you to show off? Because of that, Orion took a liking to you, and you ended up marrying Arthur!"

Every time Amelia looked at her own family's dwindling finances and her husband's uselessness, a fiery hatred for Amanda burned in her chest. If her best friend hadn't stolen her perfect match, she would have been the one living as a pampered wealthy wife.

Hearing all of this, Amanda's heart finally turned completely cold. She looked at Amelia steadily. "Arthur Everhart pursued me. I didn't shamelessly throw myself at a divorced man just for his money."

The Everhart family was wealthy, but her own background was nothing to scoff at. She never had to marry for financial gain.

Amelia scoffed, her face twisting with mockery. "Stop acting like a victim when you got everything you wanted. I can't stand looking at you right now. If you were in my shoes, you'd be doing much worse."

"If I were you, I would never have married that Sinclair man. He has nothing to offer but sweet talk."

"Since I couldn't marry the man I actually loved, is it so wrong to marry a man who was completely devoted to me?"

Amelia truly believed she had made the right choice.

Sitting on the sofa, Amanda stared at her best friend. "Right. In your eyes, everything you do is justified, and everyone else is always wrong. If you hate me so much, why did you stay friends with me for all these years? It must have been so agonizing for you."
