When They Beg I Rise (Lemira) novel Chapter 978

Hale was fully aware of her romantic history with Orion.

When Orion had tracked Hale down prior to the arrest, they had definitely engaged in some sort of private negotiation.

So why was Hale so adamant about Orion taking the stand?

Lemira couldn't read the angle. She stared him down. "What exactly kind of game are you playing?"

Hale stood up, signaling the end of the conversation. "I'm just making sure you actually win. That is the only scenario where you get the evidence."

The guards moved in, and Hale was escorted back to his cell.

Evelina turned to Lemira, practically shaking with anxiety. "I... I did what you asked. My mission is accomplished, right?"

Lemira's expression was thunderous. She spun on her heel and marched out of the facility without a word.

Lucian and Asher hurried after her.

Evander lingered behind, glaring at Evelina. "I'm coming back with you every single day until you squeeze the location of that evidence out of him."

Evelina had been gearing up to play the helpless victim, but Evander wasn't giving her an inch of sympathy.

A flash of pure venom crossed her eyes. The absolute second she delivered this baby and secured her payout, she was vanishing from the Langston Estate.

She had zero intention of playing the dutiful Langston mother for the rest of her life. If Lemira woke up one day and decided to finish her off, no one in that house would lift a finger to stop her.

As for the kid? She couldn't care less.

Outside, Lemira reached her SUV.

She turned to Lucian and Asher, her tone clipped. "Hale is completely untrustworthy. We don't even know if this so-called evidence actually exists."

"It has to exist," Asher argued, looking entirely unbothered. "If he's bluffing and the truth comes out, both he and Evelina are dead in the water."

Lucian nodded in agreement. "Asher is right. But demanding Orion testify... do you think he's worried the Everhart family might intervene to protect the Sinclairs?"

"It looks that way on the surface," Lemira murmured, her brow furrowed. "But my gut tells me there's something else going on here."

It made her incredibly uneasy.

"Lemmy, maybe you should just reach out to Orion and ask him to take the stand. He was at the scene. He has a moral obligation to testify."

Lemira shot him a withering look. "I'm fully aware of that. Focus on making Evelina actually work for her keep. Don't let her just sit around leeching off you."

She deliberately pitched her voice so Evelina, who was just walking out the doors, would hear every word.

Without another glance at her estranged brothers, Lemira got into her car and sped off.
