Mrs. Amelia grabbed Sophia. "Then try harder! You are the top socialite in the city. Do you know how many resources and how much money I poured into you? Now that I need you to repay me, you're telling me you're useless?"
Sophia looked at her, eyes filled with mockery. "But those men know about our situation. They just want to sleep with me; they don't want to marry me."
As a former top-tier socialite, she had never even given those men a passing glance. Now, she was expected to throw herself at them.
Just thinking about it made her want to vomit.
"Then sleep with them! As long as you get pregnant, you can secure your position," Mrs. Amelia declared.
Sophia stared at her mother in disbelief. "Mom, what are you saying? I'm your daughter! I'm not some cheap woman off the street."
What did she mean, 'sleep with them'?
Mrs. Amelia said self-righteously, "You should choose Barnaby Smith. His family has connections in the judicial department. If you marry him, my legal troubles will be easily resolved."
"His mother came looking for me and said awful things," Sophia replied in shock. "Even if I'm with him, his family will absolutely never lift a finger to help you."
"Then you manipulate him! He's their only son; you can't handle a simpleton like him?"
Mrs. Amelia didn't see it as an issue. As long as Barnaby threw a tantrum, the Smith family would definitely help their precious heir.
Mrs. Amelia knew these tricks inside out. Foolish men were the easiest to control.
"But I'm a human being! I'm not an object to be traded."
"I raised you for so many years! Is this how you leave me to die?"
Mrs. Amelia was spiraling into madness. "Are you going to be like your father, divorcing me to cut ties? If it weren't for me, the Sinclair Group would have gone bankrupt ages ago. Would you have lived a good life? Would you be the top socialite?"
Mrs. Amelia had reached a complete dead end.
Her useless husband wanted to distance himself from her, entirely forgetting who had made the Sinclair family so rich in the first place.
Susanna stepped forward. "Mom, Sophia became the top socialite through her own hard work."
