Chapter 9
Everyone was shocked, watching as Flynn was detained.
Flynn looked completely blindsided.
He struggled desperately.
“I never did that! You’ve got the wrong guy! This has to be a false report!”
But the IG officer said, “We wouldn’t act without solid evidence.”
At the same time, Holly was also seized.
She looked panicked, struggling.
“What are you doing? I’m just a civilian! Why are you arresting me?!”
When Flynn saw this, his confident face crumbled. Panic flashed in his eyes.
Both were restrained. Only then did the IG officer speak.
“Lieutenant Colonel Reeves is suspected of abusing his authority to forge military medic credentials, stealing a deployment slot from another qualified soldier. You’re both coming with us.”
Seeing this, everyone understood.
The base commander’s face turned red with rage.
“Flynn Reeves, I trusted you enough to promote you to lieutenant colonel, and this is how you repay me?!”
Holly dissolved into tears, trembling.
“Flynn, save me! This wasn’t my idea–you did it!”
But Flynn couldn’t help her. He was drowning himself.
As he was dragged out, he still called out to me.
“Mira, I love you–not Holly! Please save me. Tell them…”
I just watched him coldly.
The moment he stepped outside, realization finally hit him.

Chapter 9
His eyes widened: “It was YOU!”
“You found the evidence and reported me. Why would you do this?!”
I said softly, “Flynn Reeves, this is your karma.”
The two were taken away, and the Officers‘ Club gradually emptied out.
Relatives left one by one. Seeing the baby in my arms, an aunt sighed.
“Men can’t be trusted, but life goes on. That baby’s sweet–hell turn out fine.”
I smiled and thanked her.
I didn’t need my son to be extraordinary.
As long as he didn’t turn out morally bankrupt like his father, that was enough.
The next day, I boarded a train headed north.
Before I left, news came that Flynn had been stripped of his rank.
Not only did he lose his position, he was dishonorably discharged from the Army.
The messenger glanced at me carefully:
“Aren’t you going to see him one last time? You were together for years.”
I shook my head.
Years of lies–by now, Flynn and I had nothing left to say.
After settling in Boston, I went back to work with my son, throwing myself into my career.
Though it was harder than before, I felt so much lighter.
On the day I got my promotion to department head, I received a letter from back home.
It said Flynn and Holly had divorced immediately after being released.
Flynn had tried every way to find my address, but nobody would help.
Disgraced and ruined, he had no pull left.
Holly had nothing. Her only son was gone.
