Kira looked at Elsworth’s determined gaze, and couldn’t help but smile slightly.
"Master and retainer’s resolve, eh? Interesting. Let me try it for myself."
He revealed a monster card from his hand.
"I activate the monster effect of ’Zeradias, Herald of Heaven’ from my hand.
By discarding this card to the graveyard, I can add the Field Spell ’Sanctuary in the Sky’ from my Deck to my hand."
As Kira revealed it, a green-armored sky warrior’s phantom flashed overhead, swinging his sword, sending ripples through the air.
The monster went to the graveyard, and the massive white sky sanctuary appeared above. At the same time, a card popped from his deck into his hand.
"Add ’Sanctuary in the Sky’ from my deck to my hand."
Elsworth spoke gravely:
"Sanctuary in the Sky... An Angel Deck?"
"That’s right," Kira laughed. "The light of justice and hope fits me perfectly, doesn’t it?"
Elsworth: "..."
He figured: Goodwin is supposedly the Security Director, suspected in their investigation to have ties to the evil Iliaster Organization, yet he can say words like ’justice and hope’ with a straight face...
He concluded: this guy must have a face thicker than city walls, shameless to the core.
"You don’t seem to believe me, huh. Too bad, I really am a good guy," Kira shrugged.
"Then, I activate the Field Spell ’Sanctuary in the Sky’!"
Blinding white light shot upwards. Clouds swirled around as sacred, radiant buildings floated among them, as if suspended in the air.
"In the Sanctuary, any Battle Damage involving Fairy-type monsters I control becomes 0."
Kira continued:
"Next, I activate the Spell Card ’Card Destruction.’
Both players discard their hands, then draw that many cards from their decks."
Elsworth discarded his hand. As he drew, he watched Kira carefully. Activating Sanctuary before Card Destruction must mean that field was crucial.
"Then, Continuous Spell ’Fountain of the Sky.’"
A spring gushed amidst clouds of the Sanctuary, blessed water flowing forth.
"While Fountain is on the field, if a LIGHT monster is destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard, I can banish it to recover Life Points equal to its ATK."
Kira spoke nonchalantly.
"And now, I Normal Summon ’Nova Summoner.’"
[Nova Summoner — ATK 1400]
The setup was complete. Anyone who recognized this formation would be sweating right now.
Kira chuckled:
"Alright, let’s test the so-called resolve of master and retainer. If your resolve is even the tiniest bit lacking—"
He paused, squinting seriously:
"You might get OTK’d on the spot."
Elsworth frowned.
What is he planning?
"Battle," Kira said. "Nova Summoner, attack ’Driven Daredevil.’"
Elsworth:
"Attacking with a weaker monster?"
He was confused. His Driven Daredevil couldn’t be destroyed by monsters with higher ATK attacking it, and it would, in turn, destroy such attackers. But it couldn’t trigger against monsters with lower ATK.
Elsworth:
"Daredevil, counterattack!"
With a slash, Nova Summoner was cut in two, exploding.
