The Doctor's only monster last turn had been tunneled away to the next turn for burn damage, leaving no monster defense on the field. Having backrow protection was only natural.

"Sorry, that won't happen either," Kira smiled. "When Tackle Crusader is sent to the GY, it flips one monster your opponent controls face-down into Defense Position." 1

As he spoke, Brain Dragon had already lowered its banners, turning into a face-down card.
