In the depths of winter, the evening wind was biting.
Liliana's slender frame seemed to sway in the cold, her long hair whipping around her face.
She tucked a stray strand behind her ear, her clear, dark eyes fixed on the two people inside the Maybach.
Sylvia leaned toward Cedric, and from Liliana's angle, it looked as if she was placing a kiss on his cheek.
That kiss landed like a heavy stone in Liliana's heart.
Her brows instinctively furrowed, her eyes stinging and dry from the cold wind, yet she couldn't look away.
Cedric didn't see her as he quickly drove off.
Only after Liliana's figure had completely vanished from the rearview mirror did Sylvia sit up straight.
She pulled a lipstick from under the car seat.
"I've been looking for this lipstick for ages. I thought I'd lost it, but it was in your car all along."
Cedric reached up and disconnected the call on his Bluetooth earpiece, the smile on his face fading slightly.
He remembered the look on Liliana's face when she had seen this lipstick.
"Be more careful next time."
"I know," Sylvia said, putting the lipstick in her purse. Her eyes darted around, and she let out a small gasp. "Oh no, I left my flash drive at the office."
The speeding car suddenly slowed down, and Cedric pulled over to the side of the road.
He rested his elbow on the steering wheel, rolled down the window halfway, and lit a cigarette. "Go get it now."
"Okay!" Sylvia opened the car door, got out, and quickly rounded the corner, heading back toward the office building.
Liliana was enveloped in a cold, misty haze, tiny ice crystals clinging to her curled eyelashes.
As she stared in the direction the Maybach had disappeared, a graceful figure suddenly appeared in her blurred vision.
Sylvia, wearing a long red dress, swayed toward her.
Her exquisitely made-up face held a deep smile, a smile laced with disdain.
"Designer Preston, here to bring Cedric dinner? Would you like me to take it to him for you? He's going to dinner with me, but at least he'll know you came."
Liliana's fingers tightened around the handle of the insulated container as she regained her composure from Sylvia's taunts.
"I'm not trying to move him. I just need to pop up every now and then, lest Miss Woods forgets that I'm the real Mrs. Forrest."
As much as Liliana wanted to tear the other woman apart, Sylvia's desire to destroy her was even stronger.
It was as if Liliana was the one who had stolen something from Sylvia.
"I'd be too embarrassed to call you Mrs. Forrest, even if you have the nerve to claim the title."
Sylvia's attitude was brazen. She didn't seem to fear Liliana lashing out.
Or perhaps, she knew that Liliana needed something from Cedric right now and wouldn't dare to.
"You never have, anyway."
In the two years Liliana had been married to Cedric, no one except the staff at the Forrest family estate had ever called her Mrs. Forrest.
She was suddenly grateful for their secret marriage. If everyone knew she was Mrs. Forrest, she would have to correct them one by one after the divorce.
Sylvia, irritated by her stubborn refusal to back down, lost her composure. "Instead of wasting your time trying to win him over, you should go home and keep a close eye on your brother. Otherwise, you're going to regret it!"
