Wild Nights With My Brother’s Ex-Best Friend novel Chapter 88

ROMAN

I nervously wait for Nikki to get back.

Those asshole guards. I’ll hand their asses to them for scaring my girl once we get a chance to talk.

I’ve had a mostly great day, but when I got her frantic phone call, everything changed. Even now that it’s been cleared up, I still feel nervous. Anxious.

I started off by heading to my lawyer’s office first thing in the morning. We’ve been dealing with Garith’s situation and the time has finally come for me to get back at them

– for fucking with me.

“Well, Roman, I have to admit that we’ve managed to get more than we could have ever imagined,” he told me as his eyes scanned the pages. “This… this could put him behind bars for years.”

I smiled. “I know.”

His worried eyes met mine. “You know the consequences, don’t you? If they don’t accept the arrangements?”

“I know. And I couldn’t care less. We’re moving ahead with this.”

He nodded. “Alright. I’ll call you when they give me an answer.”I strutted out of his office, satisfied with the result of our meeting. As I was heading toward the exit, I bumped into someone I never dreamt of seeing.

Sebastian.

His eyes met mine and they immediately hardened. He looked fucking awful-and I meant awful. Looked like he Lost twenty pounds or something. His face was gaunt and he had a hungry look about him. But it wasn’t food he was hungry for.

I knew what it was he wanted. Nikki. My Nikki.

I didn’t feel sorry for him at all. In fact, I wanted to punch him in the face for having the memory of her sweet, sweet nectar on his tongue like I did. It was strange, staring at the face of the man who had her. I felt this dark jealousy cloud my mind, and I felt no remorse at the fact that I did him dirty by fucking her on his bed on that cruise ship while he knocked on the door like a pathetic little fuck.

I should’ve fucked her harder so he’d hear it.

I was the first to walk away. I didn’t have time for him and stare-downs. I didn’t owe him anything.

Plus, I had something to pick up-something I had custom

-made for her.

I only relax when the front door opens, and all my thoughts come to a staggering halt.

Nikki’s eyes meet mine from across the room and I pushmyself off the kitchen island and make my way toward her. “I’m sorry, baby. Come here.”

I wrap my arms around her and kiss the top of her head. ” You were never supposed to see them. They were meant to stay in the background.”

“It’s alright,” she murmurs against my chest. “At least it wasn’t anything bad.”

I pull away from her and hold her at arm’s length. “l warned Carmen to stay away from you. She knows what’ll happen if she lays a finger on you.”

Nikki gives me a doubtful look, then rummages through her bag for something. “I got this with a bouquet of roses at work.”

She hands me a card. Before reading, I joke, “Roses, huh?

Who’s sending my girl flowers?”

My scowl deepens when I read the note. I pay so little attention to it the first time that I have to read it the fuck again. What? I meet her gaze, holding the card between my fingers. “What the hell is this?”

“I told you.” She folds her arms. “Someone sent it to me at work.”

“Who?”

“I don’t know,” she replies, throwing her arms in the air.” Your ex, most probably!”Carmen wouldn’t dare to fucking do this. Not when I warned her already. But I can’t be sure. Fuck, this is exactly what I was avoiding. “I’m sorry, Nikki. This…’IL take care of this.”

Without saying anything, she heads into the kitchen, opens the fridge, and grabs a bottle of water. I follow her and try to read her expression. She seems tired. Who wouldn’t be?

“I’ll take care of this,” I repeat. “I’m close to getting what want from the Lowett’s.”

Nikki fights off a smile. “No, you don’t have to beg. It’d be stupid for me to go back to work after what happened today.”

Yes. Fuck, I’d do a little happy dance if she weren’t so visibly upset about all this shit. “It’s alright. We’ll find you something.”Her eyes meet mine. I kiss the tip of her nose. “When all of this is past us, you’ll be able to do whatever you want. I’ll make things happen for you, baby. Wanna own your own business? Your own café? Do your master’s? I’ll lay the world at your feet, and you know what? You’re going to let me.”

“And why’s that?”

I smile at her before getting on one knee in front of her.

Nikki lets out a laugh. “Okay! I told you you don’t have to beg. I just-”

I reach into my back pocket and pull out the velvet box

I’ve been keeping in there. She didn’t even notice it when she walked through the door. Her smile falls when she sees what I’m holding. “Roman, what is that?”

“You’re going to let me because what’s mine will soon be yours,” I explain. “Will you marry me, Nikki Monroe? Will you? I’ve decided a long time ago that I can’t and won’t live without you. There’s no me without you.”

Tears fill her eyes and she covers her mouth with her hand. “I can’t believe you’re proposing to me.”

“Why not?” | joke. “Haven’t I made it abundantly clear that I’m crazy about you?”

Tears slide down her face. “Yes. God, yes.”

I slide the engagement ring onto her ring finger, then rise and wrap my arms around her tightly. I twirl her around inthe kitchen, and she giggles and holds onto me.

Right now? I’m the happiest man alive.

The happiest.

Nothing can get better than this.
