Last night had been hell. This morning was agony. He’d wanted to go slow for her, to do this the right way.
But right now, with her body writhing back against him, Maddox was officially done being good. In fact, he was fully prepared to be a very bad boy.
The urge to mate roared through his body like fire.
She rolled her hips again, pressing harder.
Maddox groaned. One arm stayed locked around her waist while his other hand slid possessively down her body, cupping her heat through her zip suit. She responded with another unconscious roll of her hips, pressing against his painfully hard cock as if her body knew exactly what it wanted.
"Fuck. So responsive for me," he whispered against her ear. "I need to be inside of you."
"Don’t mind us in the back," Kael called. "By all means, go ahead and fuck her on the treasure. I’ll just be over here dying of secondhand horniness while Sterling pretends he’s not traumatized."
Maddox didn’t hear a word. He had been reduced to a single, rock-hard thought.
His hand between her thighs picked up the pace.
"That’s it," Maddox coaxed, lips against her ear. "I’m going to fuck you just like this, baby."
His hand moved to the zipper of her zip suit, fingers gripping the tab with shaking urgency.
He was going to rip the suit open and bend her over. Right here. Right now.
She pulled away suddenly.
Maddox tried to grab for her but his arms closed around empty air.
"NO." The word exploded from his mouth. Full-volume. Full Draconic register.
He lunged, but she was already a golden streak across the chamber. Maddox sprinted after her like a man possessed.
She turned to face him right before he reached her. Swiped once gently. Light. Almost playful.
The Dragon King went flying, landing in a pile of coins.
Kael slow-clapped from his golden throne on the ground. "Beautiful form! Ten out of ten. Really committed to the bit, Maddox. I’m proud of you."
Maddox didn’t stay down. He was back on his feet in a heartbeat, charging after her like a very horny, very stubborn cock-blocked dragon.
"Stop," she said softly, in Archaic Draken-Vorah without turning around.
The single word slammed through the room like a full Draconic command, which shouldn’t have been possible, since only the Dragon King and Kael could do that.
Maddox froze with one boot in the air. Every tendon in his neck was visible. He looked like a man who had never been told ’no’ in his life and was not coping well with the experience.
The command changed nothing for Sterling. He’d been frozen since she told him she wouldn’t burn him, and no one had noticed.
Kael’s jaw stayed dropped but no sound emerged.
Lux and Jaxon froze mid-extraction, wearing the expressions of two children told to stop opening presents.
Meanwhile, Guinevere went full shopping mode, blissfully unbothered.
Three black boxes. A golden bow. A sheathed blade.
Every crown on the wall flashed white as she walked past.
She stopped in front of Kael.
"Release."
She said it softly. It didn’t sound like a Draconic command. But it worked like one.
The word unlocked him instantly.
Kael sat up in his pile of treasure, grinning like a kid who just got away with something.
She extended one of the boxes to him.
"Is this for me?" he asked in Archaic Draken-Vorah, eyeing the box with excitement he was failing to hide.
"For you. When you meet death soon, this will deny it."
"Meet death soon. Deny it." Kael took the box. "Best gift card message I’ve ever received."

She dropped a small second box on Kael’s lap. "Give this to the Dragon Princess. Tell your sister it’s from you. And apologize to her properly."
"Please release." She held out the smallest box to him.
Sterling blinked, muscles relaxing. "Are you sure this is for me?"
"Yes. You are very important. This will keep you safe."
"It senses dark magic and danger," she continued. "Among other things. I hope you find it useful."
