Wolf Princess Sold to the Dragon King novel Chapter 222

Chapter 222: Hell Sent A Delivery

Renwick Lunaris had seen some shit today.

Six red flags. Seven what-the-fucks.

But the problem with dominos is you only notice them after they’ve started the chain reaction. Eight had gone down behind his back, and the ninth was seconds from impact.

DOMINO 9: SPECIAL DELIVERY

LUNARIS OUTER FOREST - 6:45 PM

DISTANCE FROM LUNARIS KEEP - 1 MILE

DRAGON FLIGHT TIME - 11 HOURS 15 MINUTES

A formation of dragons landed in the forest with the subtlety of a wrecking ball through a window, which was ironic considering the state of the Keep.

They had flown an entire day without stopping. Mistake in hindsight, because if they’d touched down even once, Jaxon or Lux could have set a portal anchor as basic insurance on the off chance she wasn’t there.

A smart commander would have seen it. Maddox would later admit he was not, in fact, being smart. He was being a husband and husbands don’t fucking stop when their wife is in danger.

DOMINO 10: THE KEEP WAS FINE WHEN WE LEFT, TYLER

LUNARIS INFIRMARY - 6:55 PM

Beta Draven had been ready to murder his son for not running the Keep. But that evaporated the second he learned that Tyler had been stabbed defending it.

He tore through the corridors at full Beta speed and into the infirmary. Tyler was on a cot with his eyes shut and his chest tightly bandaged.

Draven stopped at the cot, all color drained from his face.

"Is it infected? Why is he sick?" he asked an assistant.

"Not infected anymore, Beta. The light-bearing healer said he would be back to make sure—" the assistant stopped talking, her eyes drifting above Draven’s head. "He’s here."

A Luminari Healer crossed the room, stopping at Tyler’s bedside. He pushed white light into Tyler’s chest. For a moment, nothing. Then a tiny amount of black smoke rose from the bandage.

"Is that Dark Fae magic?" Draven asked.

"Yes, Sir. Extra potent I’m afraid," he replied as he pushed more light into Tyler.

Tyler groggily opened his eyes, then glanced down at his chest where some black threads were still rising. "Still there, huh."

"Yes, but improved. This should be the last of it."

"Thank you again. From Lunaris and from me personally. Lunaris won’t forget this debt."

The healer looked at him with a warm expression. "I’ve served under the King Solveil for six years. He doesn’t do debts. He does loyalty. You earned his when you took that blade for her. Lunaris chose their Beta well."

That’s when Tyler noticed his father.

"If you cry, I’m closing my eyes again."

"I’m not crying."

"Before you kill me, I just wanted to say, I’m sorry I wasn’t there to greet you or the Alpha in the courtyard with two whiskeys."

"Two whiskeys. That’s your plan. Your Alpha walks into a destroyed Keep and your recovery strategy is two whiskeys?"

"Yes," Tyler replied without hesitation.

"Correct answer. I’ve trained you well. Now, what the hell happened?"

"You might want to sit down for this."

Draven dragged a chair across the stone to his son’s bedside then plopped down in it.

Tyler let out a cough, wincing as he did it.

"I got a mindlink in the middle of the night two nights ago," he began. "That I needed to get into the throne room immediately because a woman was receiving lashes."

"That’s a hell of an opening sentence," Draven observed.
