After Silvia finished getting ready, she headed to the office as usual.
Her colleagues had already heard about her background and the recent events. When she walked in, a trace of concern showed on their faces.
“Silvia, is everything okay at home?”
Everyone seemed genuinely worried about her. Silvia smiled, giving a reassuring nod. “It’s fine. None of this will affect our company.”
The Ashford Group was such a massive corporation; even if those people wanted to cause trouble, there was no way they could get to a small startup like hers.
Seeing that Silvia appeared calm and unruffled, her coworkers relaxed a little, nodding in silent relief.
Noticing a female coworker busy at her desk, Silvia pressed her lips together, then walked over and offered her a gentle look.
“I’m sorry—we still haven’t gotten to the bottom of the pesticide incident. I’m afraid you’ll have to wait just a bit longer.”
She’d hoped to quickly find out who was really behind it all, but Gray Jordan refused to cooperate, and things with Laird Jordan were a complete mess.
All Silvia could do now was keep investigating.
Her coworker shook her head with a smile, clearly not upset. With a comforting tone, she replied, “Silvia, it’s not really your fault. I don’t blame you for any of this. Guess I just got unlucky with my cravings.”
By the end, her self-deprecating humor lightened the mood considerably.
Seeing her colleague wasn’t upset, Silvia finally relaxed a little and returned to her office.
Together, they made their way to a private room upstairs. The spacious room was nearly empty; only Fairchild sat waiting inside.
When he saw them, Fairchild pressed his lips together and raised his eyebrows ever so slightly.
“Sit down,” he said quietly, gesturing for them to take their seats.
Yvette quickly led Silvia to the table. They sat close together, opposite Fairchild at the round table.
Fairchild’s eyes fixed on Silvia, his expression unreadable, gaze intensely sharp.
“So, you’re the one who wanted to see me?” he asked, his tone calm but commanding.
