Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 269

“The medical records are still under investigation, but there’s just been too much happening lately.”

Silvia didn’t share the details with Yvette—she didn’t want to make her worry.

Changing the subject, Silvia forced a faint smile. “Yvette, I’ve still got some things at work that need my attention. I should get going.”

“Alright.”

Yvette had hoped that, since it was rare for them to see each other these days, she and Silvia could spend some time catching up. But with the Ashford family currently at the center of so much gossip, she knew this wasn’t the time to linger.

Still, watching Silvia prepare to leave alone, Yvette reached out and gently tugged her hand. “Silvia, no matter what happens, if there’s ever something you really can’t handle, just tell me. We’ll face it together.”

Ever since the day they’d become friends, Yvette had always stood by Silvia’s side.

Looking at Yvette’s bright, earnest eyes, Silvia’s lips curved into a small smile. She nodded in agreement.

Silvia had planned to return to the office, but her phone rang while she was still in the taxi—a call from the police station.

“Miss Ashford, do you have time to come down to the station right now?”

The female officer’s voice sounded tense, as if something urgent had happened.

With Gray still held at the precinct, Silvia didn’t hesitate. She asked the driver to change course and head straight to the police station.

When Silvia arrived, the officer greeted her, set down her paperwork, and approached.

“Miss Ashford, the hospital called. Laird Jordan’s condition has taken a turn for the worse. Gray wants to go see his father.”

The officer looked at Silvia apologetically, then handed over a signed authorization form.

“It’s already been approved by the higher-ups. But don’t worry—Gray is just going to visit. The investigation isn’t over, and our team will be keeping a close eye on him the entire time.”

At that moment, the interrogation room door swung open and a young man was led out.

He kept his head down, looking even more withdrawn than before.

Noticing there were people waiting, Gray glanced up instinctively. When he saw Silvia, he immediately dropped his gaze again, unable to meet her eyes.

Seeing him like this, Silvia’s hand clenched at her side.

“Gray!”

As he was about to walk past, Silvia stood up and called out urgently.

She stared at his back, her eyes narrowing, a hint of gravity in her expression.

At the sound of her voice, Gray’s steps faltered. He stopped, but didn’t turn around.
