Silvia yanked her hand free, her grip forceful and decisive.
With a look of clear distaste, she fished a tissue from her purse, carefully wiped her hand, and made a show of her displeasure. Then, right in front of Shipley, she tossed the crumpled tissue into the trash can without a second glance.
“Shipley, spare me the act,” she said, her voice cold.
She didn’t intend to linger another second. Silvia strode forward, her pace quickening, making it obvious she didn’t want to give Shipley the chance to stop her.
Shipley watched her retreating figure, his lips twisting into a faint, ambiguous smile. He glanced at the trash can beside him, his brows knitting briefly, though amusement glimmered in his eyes.
Even if sweet Silvia had no room for him in her heart right now, he would find a way to draw her back to his side. The idea had become an obsession, taking root deep inside him.
……
Outside the office building, Kent leaned casually against his car, a gentle smile playing at his lips as he waited for Silvia.
When she spotted him, Silvia’s lips curved into a small, genuine smile. She started toward him, about to speak, when Kent produced a paper bag from behind his back.
“Guess what I’ve got for you?” he teased, giving the bag a playful shake.
Silvia raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Did you make this yourself?”
But she could feel how careful Kent was, how much he tried to make their time together matter.
Taking a shaky breath, Silvia looked up at him. “Kent, I’m sorry. I… haven’t really been there for you, have I?”
Even though theirs was a marriage of convenience, Silvia was starting to realize just how much Kent put into it. Maybe she owed it to both of them to try a little harder.
Kent shook his head, a soft, helpless smile on his lips. He reached out, gently ruffling her hair. “You don’t have to do anything, Silvia. You’re already enough.”
Just having her by his side—after all these years—was more than he’d ever dared to hope for.
