Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 32

Silvia lifted her gaze, meeting the man's eyes.

She hesitated for a second before narrowing her eyes and teasing, “Mr. Parsons, you seem awfully interested in my personal life. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were planning to steal someone’s girlfriend.”

As soon as the words left her mouth, Kent, who had been about to stand, suddenly settled back down on the edge of the hospital bed.

He regarded her with a peculiar expression. “And what if I am?”

Silvia stared at him, their eyes locked in a silent exchange. There was something in his gaze—an emotion she couldn’t quite read.

She looked away, letting a light laugh slip out. “Well, then I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed, Mr. Parsons. I’m just an ordinary woman—I can’t move on from a relationship that quickly. Besides…”

Besides, she’d already made up her mind to go home and get married.

Kent paused, his sharp eyes narrowing slightly.

He gently caught her wrist. “Are you…afraid?”

Silvia froze, her lashes fluttering.

Afraid? Not exactly.

It was just that she’d given three years of her life to Shipley. Three years of wholehearted devotion. Even though she’d decided to end things, it was impossible to let go so quickly.

And as for the man she’d agreed to marry—she suspected their marriage would be nothing more than polite civility.

Kent watched the subtle shift in her brow, his gaze shadowed and unreadable.

After a moment, he let out a soft, almost amused chuckle.

“You’re not a coward, Silvia. You’ve never been one to settle just because you’re hurting.”

His voice was low and calm, oddly reassuring. His eyes softened. “The Silvia Ashford I know isn’t like that at all.”

She’d always been a rose in full bloom.

Shipley, or anyone else for that matter, had no right to make that rose wither.

He paused again, a faint, meaningful smile curling his lips. “Honestly, Miss Ashford, you just haven’t met the right person yet. Maybe someone better will come along sooner than you think.”

Silvia glanced up, caught by the warmth in his eyes. For a moment, her heart skipped a beat.

She smiled. “Maybe so.”

“It’s getting late. Try to get some rest. I’ve got a few things to take care of, but I’ll drop by again soon.”

Kent stood and, almost without thinking, reached out and tugged her blanket a little higher.

Silvia noticed, her eyes softening.

“Thank you.”

She looked up, gratitude brightening her features. When she smiled, her eyes curved into little crescents, and for a second, Kent could only stare, momentarily caught off guard.

......

For the next few days, Silvia remained in the hospital.

The nurse Kent had arranged worked in shifts, making sure she was never in need of anything.

On the day she was discharged, Silvia asked the nurse to handle the paperwork, intending to leave on her own.

Just as she opened the door to her room, she almost ran into someone standing outside.

It was Kent.
