Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 57

Capital City, Opal Ridge Retreat.

This was the most exclusive neighborhood in all of Capital City—a place where mansions stood far apart, and the prices were beyond extravagant.

Anyone who managed to settle down in Opal Ridge Retreat had to be from one of the city’s most powerful and wealthy families.

Right now, Silvia was sitting in the living room of one such mansion, under the watchful eyes of her parents and older brother.

“Silvia, you’ve been gone for three years. Did you manage to accomplish anything out there?”

As the family waited for the housekeeper to serve dinner, Garth Ashford finally turned his attention to his daughter, his tone sharp and probing.

Silvia had left Capital City on her own right after graduation, and even now, Garth hadn’t fully let go of his resentment. His words carried a pressure that instantly stiffened the atmosphere at the table.

He’d never been good at expressing affection to his children—what he really wanted was to see them succeed.

Silvia’s hands were tightly knotted together in her lap. She looked up, a gentle smile lighting up her porcelain face. “Nothing special. I was just an ordinary employee, really.”

“Foolish,” Garth snorted, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. He couldn’t help but lecture her. “When you’re out in the world, you have to use every connection you’ve got. I heard Shipley’s doing well in Luminova City. Why didn’t you ask him for help?”

Finn, her brother, immediately chimed in, “Exactly. I knew you went to Luminova City, and I even told Shipley to keep an eye out for you. Didn’t you ever think about joining his company?”

Thanks to Finn’s friendship with Shipley, the entire Ashford family had always had a good impression of him.

A flicker of emotion passed through Silvia’s eyes.

Her smile faltered for a moment, tinged with bitterness, but she quickly regained her composure.

She didn’t exactly deny it, just answered vaguely, “I didn’t want to trouble Shipley.”

“Our little princess has grown up and gotten all shy,” Finn teased, grinning at her. “Back when you used to follow him around, I almost thought you had a crush on him.”

Silvia’s fingers clenched tighter.

That one-sided crush—it had been nothing but chaos for her, a war waged alone.
