Year Five The Perfect Goodbye Plan novel Chapter 72

Maybe his brother had been interested in his own sister for a long time.

The memory of what had happened in bed last night flashed through Silvia’s mind, leaving her slightly embarrassed. She changed the subject. “Finn, I’ve actually picked up some project experience while I was in Luminova City. Now that I’m back, I’d like to work at The Ashford Group.”

For Shipley, she’d left behind her original field of study and transformed herself into a powerhouse in the workplace.

Now that she’d returned to the Ashford family, of course she wanted to help out with the family business. All the skills she’d honed working by Shipley’s side ought to be put to good use.

She could never bring herself to just sit around, living off the family fortune.

Finn raised his eyebrows, a gentle smile spreading across his face, pride shining in his eyes. “Seems like our little princess has finally grown up. Alright, just tell me which department you want to join and what position you’re after. I’ll make it happen.”

Silvia felt a flicker of emotion at Finn’s words.

She’d originally majored in design.

When she and Shipley started their company, she’d wanted to work in the art department.

But Shipley insisted she become his secretary, take on real responsibility, and one day, as Mrs. Barlow, she’d be able to run the company herself.

She’d believed him back then.

For him, she’d abandoned the field she excelled in.

For him, she’d learned the ins and outs of business negotiations, trained herself to become a secretary who could do it all.

Looking back now, it all seemed laughable.

Still, if not for Shipley, she would never have discovered her own talent for business.

Finn was in a rush to get to a meeting. He pointed upstairs to the study and told her to look through the company materials on her own before heading out the door.

Silvia made her way to the study on the second floor.

The room was huge, lined with bookshelves on every wall—someone passing by might have mistaken it for a small library.

She found the Ashford Group’s collection of company records and reached up to pull it down.

The company had been around for decades; this particular collection was all but obsolete.

The cover was thick with dust, which she brushed off with her hand.

She’d never known her grandmother had left behind such documents.

But which one had actually gone into effect?

She remembered how chaotic things had been when Wilhelmina died—everything had happened so suddenly.

She also vaguely recalled her parents mentioning some sort of will at the time.

But she’d been so caught up in Shipley, she’d tuned out everything else.

Did Vianne even know about Wilhelmina’s estate?

And why had someone photographed these documents in the first place...?

As Silvia tried to piece things together, she realized there had been plenty of strange things in the last two weeks of her grandmother’s life.

But after all these years, the details felt hazy and incomplete.

Maybe it was time to look deeper into the will—and into the true cause of her grandmother’s death.
