You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me?! That’s Illegal, Family! novel Chapter 101

Chapter 10

As it turned out, after his assistant’s tip that day, Theo began investigating the cause of my father’s death.

One by one, Cassidy’s numerous schemes came to light.

He discovered that everything that had gone wrong between us had been due to Cassidy’s interference.

And ultimately, Cassidy had led his former subordinates to drive me to jump from the bridge.

In that moment, he realized that perhaps he had only ever loved me.

Just as he had forgotten his initial feelings for me, he began to forget his promises and affection for Cassidy.

He captured Cassidy and those thugs, subjecting them to relentless torture and retribution.

When the torture became unbearable, Cassidy spat at him venomously.

“You think this is all MY fault? Wasn’t it YOU who betrayed her first? Don’t forget-YOU forced her to kneel before my brother, YOU ordered the ambulance to be turned away, YOU scattered her father’s ashes, YOU hit her.”

“How brutal was that blow? Need me to remind you?”

“SHUT UP!”

Theo completely lost his mind-he viciously ripped out her tongue and shattered all ten of her fingers.

Afterward, with blood covering his face, he mobilized everyone under his command to search the river for me.

He refused to believe I was dead, but when he couldn’t find me anywhere, he could only wander around the alley daily, hoping I’d come looking for the girl to reopen the case.

For three whole days, he was trapped in the terror of not knowing whether I was alive or dead.

Now, seeing me, his eyes suddenly brightened.

He rushed forward to embrace me.

I stepped back, sheltered behind Mason.

Theo stopped, glaring hostilely at Mason.

“Delilah, who is this guy?”

I regarded him coldly. “None of your business.”

“How is it none of my business? Delilah, you’re my WIFE. We’re not divorced yet…”

Before he could finish, I slipped my fingers between Mason’s, intertwining them.

“So what? We’re not divorced, but didn’t that stop you from getting cozy with Cassidy?”

Theo’s face blanched momentarily. “It’s not like that, Delilah. There’ve been many misunderstandings between us.”

I cut him off. “There’s NO misunderstanding!”

“I know Cassidy misled you about many things, but YOU were the one who truly hurt me. It was always you.”

“Theo, don’t bother pretending to be the devoted lover to whitewash yourself. You and Cassidy-I won’t let either of you off the hook.”

With that, I pulled Mason away and left.

Later, Theo tracked us to the military compound, kneeling outside the gates until his knees were raw, but he couldn’t see me again.

When Commander Blake had security throw him out, they delivered just one message:

“Handle it in court.”

Theo understood.

To see me one more time, he used all his influence to find the girl’s family and safely deliver them to the military compound gate.

Boston buzzed with gossip again-they said Theo loved me so much he was willing to let me personally send him to prison.

I found it laughable.

What did Theo think love was?

Would someone who truly loves another person hurt them so carelessly?

A few days later, the lawyer Mason found helped file an appeal for my father.

After submitting all the evidence we’d compiled, police raided Theo’s mansion.

Inside, they found Theo who had cut himself all over, Cassidy who’d been tortured beyond recognition, and four thugs whose bones had been completely shattered.

This time, Theo didn’t use any influence to exonerate himself.

He spent two weeks in detention, confessing to every charge I brought against him without protest.

During the trial, he didn’t even hire a lawyer.

When he saw me, his eyes lit up with a smile.

After the proceedings, Theo was predictably sentenced to six years.

Beyond my charges of obstruction of justice, he was also convicted of unlawful imprisonment and assault.

Cassidy received thirteen years-one count of murder and one count of attempted murder with aggravating circumstances.

The four thugs each received three-year sentences.

As he was led away, Theo couldn’t tear his gaze from me.

Through tears, he asked, “Delilah, I’ve been punished by the law as you wanted. Can you forgive me now?”

I merely looked at him impassively and asked: “If I forgive you, can you bring my father back to life?”

His face turned ashen as the officers dragged him away.

Outside the courthouse, Commander Blake expressed his disappointment.

“Ah, I had nothing to contribute after all.”

“You young people are strange-one moment you’re lovey dovey, the next you’re at each other’s throats, then someone’s ready to die to atone for their sins.”

“Things were too peaceful for you all! In my day, the bad were thoroughly bad, and the good fought evil forces to the bitter end!”

Mom and I exchanged glances, both with tears in our eyes.

My father’s wrongful conviction had finally been overturned!

After the case was reported, many who had cursed us online posted apologies.

They praised my father as a hero who saved a young woman from a lifetime of suffering.

Some of Dad’s former students also came forward, declaring him an excellent teacher-a kind and gentle old man.

Many people wanted to send flowers to my father, but they couldn’t even find his grave.

They turned their anger toward the Morgan family online instead, labeling them as “a family of monsters.”

Jesse Morgan’s grave was constantly covered with filth. Some people knowledgeable in folk magic even drew symbols on his tomb, claiming to prevent his soul from finding peace.

But Mom and I knew nothing about any of this.

Clutching Dad and Grandma’s urns, we followed Mason and left Boston.

On the road out of Boston, Mason handed me divorce papers and a credit card.

“Before his arrest, Theo found me once. He liquidated all his assets and put the cash on this card.”

“He said this was his promise to you-if he ever wronged you, he would be left with nothing.”

I didn’t refuse. After signing the divorce papers, I sent them to the lawyer to process.

With all the money, I bought two small courtyard homes in Sedona and opened a guest house with my mother.

I heard Theo developed severe depression in prison.

He refused medication, rarely slept, and when he did, nightmares immediately jolted him awake.

He suffered terribly, attempting suicide daily and constantly asking to see me.

Fris no longer in Boston. Even when news reached me, I only smiled silently.

ever see him again, not in this lifetime.

Let us live in different worlds forever-me moving forward, him drowning in the past.

That’s for the best, isn’t it?
