Chapter 6
I grabbed the heavy layers of my dress, took her hand, and bolted toward the exit.
“Maren, are you insane? What are you doing?”
“Someone stop her!”
Wyatt shouted from behind us, stunned.
But he’d planned for a runaway bride-there was no security to stop me.
I weaved through the crowd, dragging Chloe with me, and jumped into a car waiting outside.
The second we got in the car, Chloe grabbed my hand, completely lost.
“Maren, what the hell is going on?”
I couldn’t even speak. I just threw my arms around her and sobbed.
“Chloe… God, I finally found you again.”
I knew it now.
This Chloe-the one in front of me-was real.
The one whose thoughts I’d been hearing? That was fake.
Not just her. My past life. Those voices. All of it-fake.
But before I could explain, the car lurched violently.
The driver slammed the brakes. We crashed into a guardrail.
Luckily, he’d turned the wheel at the last second. No one was hurt.
Chloe and I stumbled out of the car, shaken.
And then-a black Maybach pulled up in front of us.
A stranger stepped out of the car. “Miss Hartley. Looks like we’re finally meeting face to face.”
“Wyatt Calloway?”
I called out his name.
The man seemed surprised I knew who he was.
“Didn’t expect Miss Hartley to be so sharp.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Sharp? Hardly. I’m just protecting the people I actually care about.”
“So what do you want now, Mr. Calloway?”

Hearing that, Wyatt seemed even more intrigued.
He took a few steps closer.
“Why don’t you tell me what you think you know first, Miss Hartley?”
I hesitated, but decided to speak.
Because I knew if I didn’t, some of my questions would never get answered.
And besides, I was going to have to explain all this to Chloe anyway. Might as well do it now.
But before that, I shouted toward the black Maybach.
“Stop hiding. Come on out.”
Wyatt glanced at me, surprised, then gestured to someone inside.
Two people stepped out.
One was Wyatt Calloway-the fake one.
The other was a girl who looked exactly like Chloe.
С
“Who… who is she?”
Chloe gasped, covering her mouth in shock.
“If I’m right, she’s your twin sister. Echo. The one who went missing when you were five.”
Chloe’s memory had never been complete.
When she was five, she and her twin sister were playing outside.
Someone took advantage of the moment and kidnapped both of them.
No one knows what happened during those few days.
All we know is that after they were taken, they were separated and sent to different places.
We searched for so long. In the end, we only found Chloe.
And when we did, she’d been through something traumatic.
Her memories were fragmented.
And every time someone mentioned her sister Echo, she’d get severe headaches.
Eventually, following the doctor’s advice, we stopped bringing it up.
Chloe slowly forgot the whole thing.
Even I-who remembered everything-didn’t realize at first that this girl was Echo.
It wasn’t until moving day that I noticed the small mole on the back of her hand.

Because I knew Chloe didn’t have any moles on her hands.
“From the very beginning, those so-called ‘thoughts’ I was hearing… I wasn’t the only one who could hear them, was I?”
I continued.
I’d been wondering for a while why I could only hear Chloe’s thoughts sometimes-never consistently.
After careful observation, I realized I could only hear them in quiet rooms.
Usually when there were just a few people around.
“It was just a speaker, wasn’t it? You could all hear it. But you pretended you couldn’t. You were all in on it.”
“Everything-dating me, that fake bag, breaking up and getting with ‘Chloe’ to turn us against each other-all of it was planned, wasn’t it?”
“And that past life? That wasn’t a past life at all. It actually happened!”
