Chapter 8
But Wyatt just smiled.
“Being rich gets boring after a while.”
“Spending a little money to watch some ants put on a show for us? Now that’s entertainment.”
“Maren, not everything in this world has a reason.”
“Having fun doesn’t need a reason.”
“But hey, your little theory just now? Pretty impressive. Except it’s still just a theory. And your so-called evidence? Weak as hell.”
“If you want to know why, you’re barking up the wrong tree.”
“Because everything you just said? Has absolutely nothing to do with me.”
“I’m just a victim here-some poor guy whose identity got stolen.”
Wyatt laughed, effortlessly distancing himself from everything.
“You-” I was furious, but I couldn’t find the words.
He let fake Wyatt impersonate him precisely because, on paper, he was never involved.
The only thing tying him to this made him look like a victim-not the mastermind.
But did he really leave no trace?
I smiled and held up the milk bottle.
He’d made ONE mistake. There were fingerprints on the bottle.
Realizing the truth, he snapped.
“What? You set me up?”
“You’re just a toy I used for entertainment. How dare you?”
“So you’re admitting it then, Mr. Calloway?” I smiled and pulled off the button camera hidden on my chest.
Everything had been livestreamed in real time.
This time, he was the one being watched.
In the distance, sirens wailed.
As Wyatt was dragged into the police car, he glared at me with pure hatred.
But I just smiled and held up the milk bottle.
“Oh, by the way? There were no fingerprints on this. I was totally bluffing.”

Chapter 8
“But you admitted it anyway. Isn’t that fun?”
Watching his expression shift from shock to rage to despair, I finally laughed.
The bottle might not have had prints, but the police had already traced the hallucinogen purchases back to Wyatt.
He was going to prison. No question.
Echo slowly walked over to Chloe.
“Sis… I never thought we’d meet again like this.”
She was about to be taken in for questioning too.
This was the time the police had given her.
Chloe, forced once again to relive that painful memory, had collapsed to the ground.
I pulled her close, shielding her, and looked Echo in the eye.
“Why? You came back. So why the hell didn’t you come home? Do you have any idea how many times your parents searched for you?”
Chloe’s parents never stopped looking for Echo.
Every chance they got, they’d take “vacations”-but really, they were searching the world for her.
They’d been to nearly every corner of the country.
I only found out recently-they hid it from Chloe, but they never forgot Echo.
“Searched for me? What are you even talking about? They forgot about me ages ago.”
“Wyatt showed me footage. They never even mentioned me. Not once.”
Echo’s expression flickered with confusion.
Then she shook her head furiously, refusing to believe me.
I didn’t say anything. I just handed her a few notebooks.
These notebooks documented every step her parents took searching for her over the years.
Every time they heard even a rumor about her, they rushed to follow it-only to come back empty-handed.
They’d traveled across the entire country.
But they didn’t know their daughter had been right beside them the whole time.
Echo’s eyes filled with disbelief.
“Really? My mom and dad… they really kept looking for me? All this time?”
She frantically flipped through the notebooks.
But the moment her eyes touched the words, she flinched-like she’d been burned.

Every line was filled with a parent’s love for their child.
And she’d been manipulated. Used. She’d betrayed that love.
The police were calling for her. She clutched the notebooks to her chest and got into the car.
I knelt down and held Chloe, who was still trembling.
“Chloe, it’s over. It’s all over now. Don’t think about it anymore.”
“Tomorrow’s gonna be better. I swear to you. I promise.”
