You Faked Your Deaths to Punish Me?! That’s Illegal, Family! novel Chapter 62

Chapter 7

I went to the hospital.

Sienna was lying in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Her face, neck, wrists-every visible part of her skin was covered in bruises. Some spots were still bleeding. It looked horrific.

But I didn’t feel much. Last time, I looked way worse than this.

Liam saw me and stepped into the hallway.

In just one night, he looked like a completely different person.

His face was blank. He spoke quietly. “Doctor says the injuries from last time didn’t heal. Now with all this new trauma, she needs surgery.”

“The physical stuff is bad, but her mental state’s worse. She won’t talk. Won’t eat or drink. She’s only alive because of IV fluids.”

He paused. “Sloane, my mom always treated you well.”

“If you’d warned her earlier-or told me sooner-maybe none of this would’ve happened.”

I kept my voice calm. “Liam, YOUR mom cheated. YOUR dad punished her. Are you seriously blaming ME right now?”

He flinched.

I stared him down. “And I had no proof. If I’d said something, would you have believed me?”

“Would you have believed your dad would hand your mom over to another man?”

He didn’t answer. But his face said everything.

After a long silence, he told me he’d reported it. Cormac had been detained.

Finally, I’d been waiting for this.

After Comac got arrested, Mom and Jett were brought in for questioning too.

ept asking me what happened. I played dumb every time.

n Dad called, gloating. “What’d your mom do now? Bet it’s your uncle dragging her into his mess again.”

“I always said that brother of hers was trash, but she never listened. Now look-karma!”

When he found out it was about Sienna, he sighed. “Poor woman. Married the wrong guy.”

Then he hung up.

Last time, Dad ran off to Phoenix with Sienna and started a new life. I thought they actually cared about each other.

But this time? Dad’s been too busy going on dates. I heard he’s been bringing different women home every other night.

Then rumors started spreading-Dad couldn’t get it up anymore. Even with pills, nothing worked.

Guess Mom’s revenge during the “glue incident” did permanent damage. Physical or psychological, who knows.

When I heard that, I ate an extra bowl of rice that night.

A few days later, Mom got released. Turns out she knew Cormac, but the cops confirmed she wasn’t involved in what happened to Sienna.

After a few nights in holding, she looked rough.

First thing she did when she saw me? Complain.

“That little bastard Liam turned on his own father and called the cops over that slut Sienna! Ungrateful piece of shit!”

“Our family never raised trash like that! I hope he gets hit by a truck!”

She cursed Liam for a solid ten minutes. Then started listing all the things Jett had ever done for me.

“When you were little and wanted snacks, your uncle bought them without a second thought.”

“In middle school, when those punks messed with you, your dad did NOTHING. But your uncle? He got people to beat their asses.”

“In high school when you wanted a phone, your uncle gave you his.”

Finally, she got to the point.

“Cormac said he’ll take all the blame. But there’s one condition.”

She paused. “Cormac has a son. He’s 28. Yeah, he’s older than you, but he’s a good guy. And his family’s loaded. You wouldn’t regret marrying him.”

What she didn’t mention? Cormac’s son is mentally disabled. He’s literally brain-damaged.

I stared at her, trying to process it.

How is it that even after coming back in time, I’m ending up in the exact same place?

My own mother is trying to sell me off. Again.

I guess my look pissed her off, because she glared at me. “Sloane, I’m your MOTHER. This is happening whether you like it or not.”

“I’m an adult. I make my own decisions.”

“You have no right to control my life.”

I looked at her with pure disgust. “And you think the cops are stupid? You think they’ll just let this slide?”

“If you’re so worried about your precious brother, why don’t YOU marry into that family?”

The second those words left my mouth, Mom’s face twisted with rage. She swung her hand and slapped me hard across the face.

SMACK

Pain exploded across my cheek. I touched it-already swelling.

I stared at her coldly. “You gave birth to me. That slap? Consider it payback.”

“From now on, we’re done.”

She looked at me like I’d lost my mind. “I’m your MOTHER!”

I stepped forward and grabbed her throat, squeezing hard. “If you weren’t my mother, I’d kill you right now.”

She froze in shock. Then started fighting back-pulling my hair, clawing at my face with her nails. Blood dripped down my cheeks.

But I didn’t let go.

Not until people heard the commotion and started gathering around.

Only then did I shove her away.

She hit the ground, clutching her throat and coughing violently.

I looked at her one last time. Then turned and walked away.

Behind me, I heard her scream, “You… cough… you MONSTER!”

Someone asked if she needed help. If they should call the cops.

I walked faster.
