Sitting on the main seat, the old man looked at the chaotic discussion and slammed his gavel.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
"Silence!"
After he shouted, the meeting room finally calmed down. Everyone stopped talking, but their expressions showed their rejection of the suggestion.
A few minutes later, a man in his late thirties stood up and said, "Lord Erast, as you said before, the possibility of Lunar City surviving the attack was only 1%. Even if we send reinforcements, how many soldiers should we send to their deaths?"
"What’s more, even if we send half of our military power to help them, how confident are you that we will be able to save them and eliminate those zombie cockroaches?" he asked again.
When he heard this, Erast Tolstoy frowned deeply. After a moment of silence, he finally said, "Sir Borislav, I understand your concerns. But Lunar City is part of the Tsardom Empire, and the people living there are our citizens."
"As the head of the parliament, I will never abandon our people. Even if the chance is low, there must be a solution and a way to save them."
The moment he said this, the commotion erupted again. This time, the members of the parliament no longer discussed with each other but attacked him directly.
"Lord Erast, you say you won’t abandon our people. But by sending our soldiers over, what’s the difference between that and telling them to die?"
"Lord Erast, even as the head of the parliament, you can’t make a decision on your own. As long as the majority of the members raise their objections, you can’t mobilize the soldiers."
"That’s right, you can’t sacrifice half of our soldiers just to save your grandnephew."
As soon as they heard this, they looked at Erast Tolstoy with meaningful gazes. Everyone knew that the Vice Mayor of Lunar City was his sister-in-law’s grandson.
He kept talking about the supplies that they might lose if the city were destroyed. But after they thought it over, his goal was to save his grandnephew and preserve the last descendant of the Volkov family!
Despite facing zombies and mutants, these people were still unable to see the bigger picture and only thought about benefiting their family members.
When Erast Tolstoy heard their words, sadness and disappointment flashed in his eyes.
It was true that he wanted to save his grandnephew, but it was also true that the grain reserves in Lunar City couldn’t be lost. Otherwise, they would face a worse food shortage.
Fifteen minutes later, Borislav Morozov finally raised his hand and said, "Everyone, please calm down!"
As the heir of the Morozov family, he held military power second only to the Tsar. Therefore, although he was only 39 years old, his influence in the parliament couldn’t be underestimated.
When he met Borislav Morozov’s provoking gaze, Erast Tolstoy was so enraged that he felt a throbbing pain in his chest. He glared at him and said through gritted teeth, "Borislav Morozov, those are human lives! Our people! How could you do this?!"
Hearing his words, Borislav Morozov narrowed his eyes and replied, "Lord Erast, we are facing an apocalypse. It’s not the time to be soft-hearted."
"If the zombie cockroaches attack other cities, can you take this responsibility? Can you ensure that no one will die?" he asked coldly.
Under his attack, Erast Tolstoy couldn’t say a word. Even though he had the will, he indeed had no ability to guarantee that the zombie cockroaches wouldn’t attack other cities.
Meeting his bloodshot eyes, Borislav Morozov smiled and said, "Lord Erast, you can rest assured. I will send my elite team over and make sure that they complete their mission perfectly."
After he finished his words, he turned and left the meeting hall. Seeing this, one after another, the members of the parliament left the meeting hall.
Ten minutes later, a young woman walked over and asked, "Lord Erast, what should we do now?"
Erast Tolstoy slumped down in his seat and closed his eyes.
Clenching his fists, he said, "There is nothing we can do now. Contact Lustin and tell him to prepare. Borislav is eager to bring the Volkov family down. I’m sure his elite team will arrive in 6 days at the latest."
