After he said this, the mutant turned his body and closed his eyes. Thinking about his bleak future, the young man let out a muffled sob as he ate.
An hour later, the mutant suddenly opened his eyes and checked the room. Everyone was sleeping soundly. Standing up, he walked to the window and checked the situation outside.
Before he and his team infiltrated this place, they had studied the map of the Red Cliff Base. Although the base was destroyed and most locations were unrecognizable, he was still able to find the central command building.
He put on the mask and the baseball cap before he slipped out through the window.
As a Level Four mutant, it was a piece of cake for him to sneak past the guards. He avoided them and arrived at the cliff area before midnight.
When he arrived, a group of mutants had been waiting for him. Seeing him coming, one of them asked, "General Tolstoy, did you find that person?"
Richard Tolstoy shook his head and replied, "Today is only our first day. It's not easy to find the Herder. He might not even be here."
Hearing his words, one of them kicked a pebble and cursed, "Damn Morozov. If I catch him, I will make sure to give him a gruesome death!"
Raising his hand, Richard said calmly, "We don't have much time. Let's not talk about that. First, we have to find a way to evacuate the people."
He glanced at his team and continued, "As you all can see, prolonged contact with the devil seeds harms the body. Even if we are mutants, we can only hold on a little longer compared to the commoners before the radiation destroys our bodies."
After he said this, he took out a small piece of black crystal from his pocket and handed it to a boy. "Matt, send this back to my cousin, Lustin."
Matt accepted the crystal and asked, "General, do you have any message for Commander Volkov?"
Richard thought for a moment and replied, "Just let him and my father know that I'm safe. We will send a message when we find Borislav Morozov and his cronies' location."
"Understood."
After Matt finished speaking, he suddenly disappeared from the spot. While he was young, he had awakened a rare ability, invisibility. Paired with a wind-type ability, he was the best messenger in the entire battalion.
While the group was discussing their plans, Zhang Yuan and the rest of the Phantom Team members listened to them intently below.
The cave was located 3 meters below the ground. With their superior five senses, they could hear their conversation loud and clear.
Xiao Qi nudged Zhang Yuan and asked in a low voice, "Vice Captain, it turns out those mutants are Commander Lustin's people. Should we go meet them?"
"We are on a mission and accidentally heard the discussion between you and your members. Since both of us have the same goal—taking down the Herders—how about we cooperate?" Zhang Yuan asked.
Richard Tolstoy already had a guess in his heart, but he still raised his eyebrows when he heard his suggestion. He observed them for a moment before he asked, "Do you have any plan?"
"At this moment, my Captain and some of our members are investigating the hidden base in the mountain near the city center. While we wait for their information, we plan to investigate the situation inside."
"But it will be hard for me and my team to infiltrate the mine without alarming the enemies. Since you and your team have successfully gone inside, your team will be responsible for investigating from inside, and my team will assist you from the outside."
After they heard Zhang Yuan's suggestion, Richard's members frowned.
They discussed among themselves in low voices for a while before one of them said, "As you just said, you can't go inside. How will you assist us if you can't even go inside?"
As soon as he finished his words, several thin ice needles shot toward the man, stopping a few millimeters away from his eyeball.
When everyone realized what was going on, the man's face had turned pale, and his body was trembling. Due to the shock and fear, his knees weakened, and he knelt down with a thud.
Sitting on top of the cold snow, he didn't even dare to breathe too loudly, as one wrong move would cause him to lose his eyeballs.
