One More Chance novel Chapter 178

"So what do you want to tell me?" I asked her the moment I sat down across her seat inside the coffee shop. I've already ordered some drinks and pastries before walking to her chosen table.

She lowered her gaze and I frowned when she sighed.

"Sam..." Fidgeting her fingers, she then started opening her mouth but then stopped and sighed again.

"I won't eat you, I'm not a monster, Lucy," I tried to throw a joke to lighten her mood because I noticed how tense she was in her seat.

"I'm sorry for all the things I've done to you..."

I took a deep breath. I didn't expect to hear those words from her.

"If you're only here to apologize, then I forgive you. The damage has been done and there is nothing I can do about it anymore."

"No! You should fix your relationship!"

I blinked in a slight shock when her voice came a little bit louder. She even straightened her body as she looked at me with those big round eyes.

"What are you talking about?" I asked her, wry smile immediately slipped from my lips. "How am I supposed to be able to fix it when it's already been broken --- when you've already broken it?" Even though it sounded like a joke, the sarcasm can still be heard from it.

"I'm sorry," She apologized again, looking down at her fingers... again.

"Why don't you just tell me what you want or what you wanted to say so we can already talk it out? Oh, wait--- what do you have this time? Don't tell me you now have a video?"

"No, Sam, actually, I'm here to apologize," I raised an eyebrow. "Sam, it's all my fault," she stated making me stare at her with a deep frown. "Those pictures and all the things I said at the café were all lies."

My mouth dropped in mid-air as I tried to take a deep breath. My mind was still processing what she had said when she added the following lines.

"He didn't cheat on you... Luke didn't really cheat on you, Sam. They were all lies. I just made up those lies and even those photos I gave you that day."

I didn't say anything... well, honestly I couldn't form a word inside my head. To say the shock I felt was an understatement it left me speechless for a moment and I no longer know how to describe it.

"Huh! Have you gone insane?" The first question I blurted out after a few seconds of being in shock.

"I- I'm sorry, I felt so jealous of you and your relationship, and that's what made me do those things."

"Oh, God!" I gulped and then covered my mouth with my hand as my lips began to quiver. Tears formed around my eyes as I remembered how Luke tried to explain himself to me these past few days but I didn't give him the chance to do so.

"Those photos... I had a friend who worked at a media company to photoshop them, create a malicious article about them, and then upload them online---"

"Lucy!" I slammed my hands over the table as I yelled her name. I tried to swallow the lump that had formed in my throat but it was so hard when my heart was screaming Luke's name. "How dare you? How could you do this to us?"

"I'm sorry, Sam, I know it was all wrong that's why I'm here to make them right---

"To make them right?" I cut her off, narrowing my eyes at her. "Do you hear yourself, right now, huh? How can you make them right when you haven't done anything right in the first place?"

She didn't say anything. She just lowered her head and apologized again for I don't know how many times since earlier... I have already lost count.

"So, tell me... did he ask you to come here and talk to me?"

"No!" she hardly shook her head. "I came here of my own will and he didn't talk to me." she bit her lower lip as she now began to shed tears. "He didn't know I was here and he didn't know that I was going to talk to you."

"Then what made you decide to talk to me now? Do you have another plan or a bigger plan to make?"

"No, Sam---"

"Or did your conscience start eating you up?"
