~~~Give us this chance to start over again, darling, I'm coming home to stay. It's been a long long while, I know I've caused you pain. Living without you it's not quite the same, can't we start over again? I played around too long, running from end to end. Took you for granted I've been such a fool, can't we start over again?~~~
I suddenly lost all my strength when they finally got inside. I took a deep breath and leaned against my seat. How did I lose her? How did I lose someone like her?
After a few minutes of contemplating whether to wait for them and follow where they were going to go all day or leave and report to the office, I chose the latter.
I started the engine and made my way to the office. I don't know how many days he would stay in San Francisco because from what I heard from Jack's story, he's a surgeon and he couldn't stay away from his job for too long. That's what I put in mind to calm myself and distract me from thinking of whatever they were doing at the moment.
"Whoa! Boss, I thought you said you're not going to work today?" Patrick asked me in surprise the moment he walked into my office and saw me sitting on my desk.
"I've changed my mind." I simply said without looking at him.
But just what I thought, he won't stop and just shut his mouth until he finds out the truth.
"Ohh... really? You've changed your mind or something has happened that made you change your mind?" And with an annoying smile playing on his face, he walked over to my desk and slumped himself on the couch.
But not even a second passed that his butt touched the couch when he saw the flowers and cake over the shelves.
"Oops! Let me guess--- she didn't take the flowers and told you to throw them, but you couldn't do it because you thought they're expensive, so you just decided to bring them here, am I right?"
-'Haist!'- I sighed, scratching the back of my neck and wishing the ground could open and swallow this man, so his mouth turns shut.
"Come on, boss. Hmm... or maybe her boyfriend came to visit her, so you have no choice but to disappear and bring your presents here rather than throw them on the way, so which one?"
I straightened my sit as my mouth slightly opened when I heard his last question.
"How did you know that?" I asked him, frowning.
"Huh? How did I know what?" He asked me back, confused and that deepened my frown.
"How did you know her boyfriend was here?"
"Whoa! So it's true that your wife's boyfriend came to visit her---"
"I said how did you know about that?" My voice rose a bit which shocked him.
"Hey, man! I didn't know anything about it, I was just asking some random questions to get you to speak, that's just it."
"Are you sure, Patrick?"
"Of course! How do I know about her or her boyfriend? It's as if I'm close to them or something. I only saw your wife at your daughter's party and haven't seen her since then. And I've only heard stories about her from you, remember?"
Letting out a long, deep sigh, I leaned against my seat and closed my eyes for a moment.
"So does that mean it's true? I mean, her doctor boyfriend is here?"
I nodded.
"Oh, shoot!"
I nodded with my eyes closed, so I had no idea what he did. Well, he just shook his head and stared at me, but deep in his mind, he screamed 'Now you realized how stupid you have been, Mr Williams? You already had the most precious gem in your hand, but you still chose the simple stone.'
"I was about to visit them when I saw Sam's car heading out the gate." I opened my eyes and sighed for I don't remember how many as I've already lost count since this morning. "David was the one driving the car and my family was there, happy and enjoying his company. The family that should have been mine but---" but he interrupted me.
"But you never gave importance."
"And I chose to let go," I added, my voice filled with regret and bitterness.
"Because of a dream... of your selfish dream!"
